Analysis of MMOG Subscription Numbers

Post by noel »

I found this to be a very interesting page detailing the subscritption numbers of all of the popular (and some of the unpopular) MMOGs over time.

http://pw1.netcom.com/~sirbruce/Subscriptions.html

FYI, the person who maintains the page is a total freak, but the information is good, and none of his freakishness is displayed on that page. I believe it's as accurate as it can be.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised such good information would come from him. Then again, he's probably one of the few people anal-retentive enough to compile it. :)

Former lummie, Sylv?

Yeah, though for whatever reason I was a bit more timid back then when LtM was open so I mostly just lurked. In it's heyday that place could get downright brutal.

I followed the community to Slow News Day (wasn't there one in between there?) and then it got shitty and I stopped going. I think on those boards I was known as empee, been a while so it could have been one of my other handles.

I really didn't expect UO to fare as well in that. I mean they held a steady 2nd place...by a good margin. I mean I expect that up in the front of the chart, but I figured they would have dropped lower by now.

If it's Sir Bruce, you can bet that the WW2Online numbers are skewed ;)

that guy is a fucking crackpot who should never be taken seriously, ever.

also, more than half of those companies guard their subscription numbers hard. there's no way he knows them. he's making all of that shit up.
