hollywood liberals to rally against arnold?

Post by kyoukan »

http://www.nypost.com/gossip/pagesix.htm

Yeah it's the Post, so sue me. I doubt they invented the quotes and story from thin air.
TOM Hanks and many other card-carrying Hollywood Democrats are teaming up against Arnold Schwarzenegger to prevent the Terminator from becoming governor of California.

"Tom was furious when [a misleading] article in the Los Angeles Times appeared on Tuesday, saying Creative Artists Agency would help Arnold in his bid for governor," our spy said.

"Tom and other power players are absolutely against Arnold becoming governor," the source added.

The L.A. paper reported Schwarzenegger "has asked CAA to join his political effort, largely by tapping the Beverly Hills-based agency's entertainment relationships to help raise campaign funds and rally voters."

But CAA, whose 570 employees are overwhelmingly Democrats, quickly distanced itself from Schwarzenegger's campaign.

"The information in the Los Angeles Times article . . . was false and misleading," CAA said in a statement. "It would be inappropriate for us to endorse candidates."

Along with Hanks, pot-loving actor Woody Harrelson is set to join the fight against Schwarzenegger. "Woody is diametrically opposed to Arnold Schwarzenegger's political positions," a spokesman for Harrelson told PAGE SIX. "He does not support the candidacy."

Oft-arrested protester Martin Sheen told "Access Hollywood" Schwarzenegger got his marching orders from the Bush administration. "The California recall is an effort to grab the state for the Republicans," Sheen said. "I suspect this came out of the White House. Frankly, it makes perfect sense after Florida."

Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds have also noted that the Governator would be a "huge" mistake, and Cybill Shepherd is freaked out by the prospect of the Austrian-born action hero in the executive mansion.

"That would be the worst tragedy in the history of California," Shepherd hyperventilated to "Access Hollywood."

"I think that we are the laughing stock of the world, with Arnold Schwarzenegger running [for] governor," Shepherd said. "I think he's a real hypocrite. I think he has a past that is going to come out, and I'm not going to mention what it is, but it's not going to be pretty."

Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg, Warren Beatty, Susan Sarandon, Al Franken, Ed Asner, Mike Farrell and Rob Reiner are also expected to rally against the Terminator.
OH NO ED ASNER AND MIKE FARREL CALL OFF THE CAMPAIGN

I think it's interesting to see how partisan Amerian politics is. A child could see how retardedly advantageous it would be to have a major hollywood player like ah-nawld in office, but a lot of his peers seem determined to undermine his candidacy based on the fact that he's a republican.

Arnold himself seems to be more of a centrist to me. He seems fiscally conservative (which is what california seems to need) but most of his social policies from what I've seen have been fairly moderate or even liberal. He even has a lot of fairly hardcore democrats working for him, Warren Buffett being nearly infamous for his socialist tendencies... and the decision to bring him into his fold pissed off a lot of hardcore righties. Arnold always struck me as a fairly liberal guy that just doesn't like liberals very much. I mean hell, he even married a Kennedy.

It will be weird to see how Hollywood's left reacts long term to something like this. Arnold seems to have the best chance currently of winning the election if Davis does get recalled. Frankly though, he probably couldn't ask for a better political opponent than Barbara Streisand.

And Cybill Shepherd talking about somene else's past? What the hell did Arnold do that Cybill Shepherd could question his past? Hell I think even I fucked Cybill Shepherd.

he seems like a good canidate, I would probrably vote for him over davis if i lived there, of course the let down is that california would possibly give there electoral votes to dubyah in the next election

Godamn i fucking hate the electoral college, its pure bullshit and not democracy by any means, being that an individual who lives in texas or californias vote is worth at least 4x someone who lives in Alaska or Wyomming

I actually have a serious question: Is the US really a laughing stock internationally because of the California governor issue?

Up in Canada were not really making any more jokes about it than what the US talk shows (leno, letterman etc.) are making. some doubts have been raised over his ability to do the job, but not really in a LOL AMERICA SO DUMB VOTING FOR THE TERMINATOR kind of way. I think all in all Canadian's are taking him pretty seriously, but the way a lot of these hollywood lefties have been talking they are making it out to be like the world is laughing at california.

I don't think having Arnold in office would have any net impact on the Republicans getting California in a presidential race. I agree, as well, that he's more of a moderate than some hardcore right winger as many Democrats have complained about.

/shrug

If I were in Cali, I'd probably vote for him; but I'm not, so the point is moot.

Can't comment on international impact, obviously.

California is surely the laughingstock of the States at the moment. It's a position Californians should be used to by now.

The race in California is a joke because everyone and their brother is running.

IMO, Arnold is one of the most legit and sensible candidates.

The fact that people like Woody Harrelson, Cybil Sheppard, and Carrie Fischer are against him makes me all warm and fuzzy. I'm sure these coke-heads, I'm sorry, REFORMED coke-heads know exactly what it takes to run a state... into the ground.

I'm really not surprised about the liberals of hollywood taking stance against Arnold on this.. to them, this is practically breaking lockstep formation.

What WILL surprise me is if he loses.. is if he is going to be able to continue acting with the same directors and costars that he usually does (or level of talent, at least). I think that's a big question that he should consider.. or if he's going to retire straight up.

Expect to see attempts to get his star off of the walk of fame.

Martin Sheen, Ed Asner, Susan Sarandon, Barbara Striesand?

All vocal far-too-lefties but does anyone really take them seriously? And where's Tim Robbins, he go chasing after another boob-sagger?

Unfortunately, the more yer vocal and well known, the more people will consider your message.. expecially the ones that beleive everything that the TV says to them.

I'm not so sure about that. Everybody has got to have someone they look up to more than the befuddled mess that is Ed Asner.
Unless they advertise or sponsor smear adverts in great numbers, it won't mean a damn. A silly rally won't drum up much more than a snippit on ET.

Norwegian newspapers have written quite a bit about it, and 99% of it has been about Arnold. Hasn't really been any attempts at making fun of it afaik, although I have not had a chance to read editorials and I know of at least a couple of editors who certainly have written extremely sarcastic comments about this...

Danish newspapers have covered a few of the candidates - Arnold (moviestar, so good gossip column material), Mary Carey (pornstar, so good gossip column material), and some guy whose name I forgot (grew up in Denmark so good gossip column material).
