Madden 2003
I bought Madden 2003 yesterday. IT ROCKS! I immediatly started a franchise as I always do. The first games you play are Preseason games. Your starters play for the first half and then your 2nd string comes in. It is very cool so far. Running seems to be much tougher than in 2002. Also when hiking the ball you would hit 'X' and then hit 'X' again to bring up your passing targets, well now you just hit 'X' to hike the ball and you are set to pass. I fucked up a lot of passes by double tapping that button. Al Michaels does the commentary with John Madden now. Madden even is more quiet during the games and when he does talk it is usually pretty good info.
Does it have a "settings" menu where you can change the AI for things like Interceptions, Fumbles, Run Blocking, ect? On 2002, I found certain settings that produced more "realistic" statistics while playing 7 minute quarter games.
I am addicted to Madden 2002, in fact, since I left EQ I have played through 4 30 year franchises.
What console are you playing on, or do you use your PC?

I am on a PS2. I saw something for settings but I didn't investigate it yet. I was too busy playing and, like most married men can sympathize with, the wife was demanding attention and the TV. So I could only finish the game I was playing before I was ousted. Yes, I do have another tv but I didn't feel like dropping down to a smaller tv and unassembling the set up I have with the game box.

Not hitting x again to bring up the passing options is just the default setting, I'm pretty sure you can change it back to the old way if you like. I haven't played Madden yet, but we have the new NCAA one and it is the same way. The change in the way passing works really messed me up the first time I played, it'll be hard to get used to it after so many years of having to bring up the receivers before passing.

I agree. I didn't know if it could be changed or not but I think I am going to leave as is for now. I did find something that did irrate me a bit though. When backing up after hiking the ball if I smoosh my thumb on the down and right buttons on the pad it passes the ball. I am guessing this has something to do with the route passing or some shit but it pissed me off a few times.

The tweaks they did to the computer AI (for Madden and NCAA) made it 1000 times more enjoyable to play. No more will you face the exact same defensive package from start to finish. No more does Nebraska try to run the option 90% of the fucking time, with HB draws filling the other 10%. Most importantly, no more do my precious Gators face nickle and dime looks after running the ball 2 dozen times in a row.

OMG yes. That is another great thing. I will send the Tight End in motion and the defense will adjust to it. They even have talking going on from the defense. "Motion!" or "Watch that guy" or "Watch for Pass".
Also the AI doesn't always call timeout when there is like 3 seconds left in the half or game when they are down in points and it is 4th and long.

If you like franchise modes try the Sega football. The franchise mode in the sega football goes more in depth then the madden. Also the play books are more advanced then in madden. I was quite suprised with the sega football this year. I work for EB and I know how Madden has always been known as the best football game but I have had many customers return madden to get Sega NFL2k3 because of the deeper franchise mode. One thing some customers have said is that if you are a hardcore football fan you will have more fun with the sega and if you are just a casual fan stick with the madden. Also Sega got ESPN to help with all the interfaces so it looks like you are watching the game on ESPN.

I'm not a franchise player. I just play against the computer when there are no real people around for me to dominate
