A friend that hasn't been on in a while sent me a tell, he's a great guy and I was happy to see him. I said hey man, where've you been??
He said, "I've been on another server playing with my son."
I said, "Isn't your son like 5?"
He said, "Yes, he's five, come over and say hi sometime."
I said, "Ok, what lvl are you guys?"
He said, "47, a cleric and a warrior, we swap out sometimes, hes a real addict."

5 year olds can be good gamers, I used to go to the arcade here when I was 5, pulling a little foot stool thing with me, and kick peoples asses at like MK1 and shit. Played on BBS's back then too, I was teh win at LORD and another BBS game I cant remember the name of...your character was an X I think, and ya had to move around and get armies and kill shit and stuff...and I remember you could kill Wicked Wombats!

My 10yr old daughter plays with me sometimes when I play my cleric she plays a 51 Warrior, and pulls nicely~

Yes she has her own account, Computer in room , Cable etc~

I was a full time gamer since 5 years old.
My nephew has had games since he was 2... a gameboy... And he was pretty good at them. Frankly I think the earlier a child gets electronic games, the faster their brains are stimulated to independent action. Inside a game, they're not trapped in some house, they can do what THEY want. It stimulates independent problem solving behavior. Thats just my opinion, doctors may say different.

They aren't evil or the debil or scary bad, but I'd rather they did something else. There are other ways to stimulate the brain.

Wiffle ball was the pwn for a good 10 years of my life.. every summer me and my best friend would go out in the backyard and just play for hours.

I used to play pinball machines when I was like 6.. I kicked ass too.

That may be true, but my girlfriend teaches 8 year olds and these kids do nothing but play video games. It comes to the point where all they think/do is sit in front of the television, become fat and not know how to write (the latter is a perfect example of certain people on this board).

Kids that age should be outside, doing physical activities, and/or reading books.

Well, I have been playing Everquest for damn near 3 years, and I don't wish the many hours I've put into the game upon ANY kid I don't care what age. Sure It's fun now, but when i think about all it took to get me to where I am on my guy today. Makes me wonder had i taken up another hobby, what i could have done with my time. Oh well i still play hehe. Anyhow I have a 7 year old nephew who I refuse to let play, just for the simple fact that I've wasted OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of time playing this game sure its entertainment for me, but he should be doing what kids do playing sports, running outside, going to the park, throwing rocks at girls

Intellkivision! lmao. I still remember the commercials with George Plimton pushing how superior it was to the 2600. I had the 2600, but always wanted the "Colicovision"

Ditto. I think it came out in '77 but really didn't pick up steam until space invaders came out for it. I personally love the time frame I grew up in though. I still have my Compute! mags from '80-'82 when I use to type in my own games for my C64. I remember the anticipation before typing Run because there was usually some fuck up in the peek or poke lines

For the Atari, I still remember playing Combat against my brother for hours. Riccochet tanks and bi-planes were the top choices with the occasional 2 on 2 jets thrown in.

I think I started at age 6 or 7...On the Intellivision. Man my uncle was ruthless on Sea Battle....he owned up on me for a good portion of the summer (it was his game system).

Actually before that I had played Pong a bit....but I don't think that counts because it was too simplistic...there just wasn't much out when I was a kid.

Working Colecovision units are worth a damn fortune now.

Intellivision is being relaunched a la the 2600. You can buy a huge selection of "classic" games now, built into a replica joystick of said system. Just plug it into your TV and you're away.

It's truly amazing how badly those games suck now

My boss restores old arcade machines. I was at his place for a party a few weeks back and couldn't stop playing Missile Command. He's got 6 being rebuilt at the moment and I've told him I'm having one when I move into a place with a bit more space. . .

The only game I liked on the Colicovision was teh Smufs.

Missile Command was the shit in the arcades. I used to have to stand in line to play it. That big ball was 100% own.

Oh yeah he keeps a few here in the office, too, so we can play them at lunch and after work hours *cough*[1]. ATM we have: Robotron, Tempest, Pac Man, Smash TV, Star Wars (sit-in), some pinball or other and a 2-seat Sega Daytona complete with comedy fucked-3D-chip graphics glitches.

[1] Actually it's impossible to sneak a game in during work time. You forget how damn noisy the things are

MC was great in the arcades. I remember hunkering down to protect that last city and silo. I also wanted to go postal on those fucking smart bombs more than once.

Hell, a bunch of those old arcade games kicked ass. I still have Williams greatest hits sitting on top of my ps2 for easy access

I started playing games at 2 or 3 (dont remember) on the Atari 2600. Over the years I did them all, Coleco, TRS-80, Com 64, Nintendo you name it. I didnt go hard core till about 12 or 13, but I still played some neighborhood sports. I remember when I use to play all night long and if I was still on the computer when my dad got up, he would be PISSED. So I'd play until I heard him shaving and I'd go to bed. I did the BBS's, the MUD's before html existed. I'm kinda glad my son doesnt play to the degree I do, but we each have our draws. You may say you want your kid doing this, or not doing that, but look at the evils out there, computer games arent the worst. One of the problems with kids playing with kids is, lots of times thats where the 'bad' experiences come from so its a trade off.

He did fill up his computer at 6 with mp3's though, kids are a lot smarter at their age than we were, or maybe just they have more outlets to show it.

My kids are going to play Video Games, and they're going to like it!!

My first game was Pong on an old black and white console tv. People living upstairs had pacman and I would sneak up there every chance I got.

In the arcade, I loved Popeye, smash tv and Double Dragon. Me and a buddy would go to the arcade and play double dragon all night till we beat it. It didn't take long after a while and back then you got 10 plays a dollar on some nights.

I dont doubt it, because none of them bloody worked! What a steaming pile of crap that console was. It's not that the games were bad, on the contrary, they were quite good. They just never mastered the difficult art of ensuring every contact in the console touching every contact in the game cartridge on a repeatable basis. It did make for some fun effects, like with the dungeon crawl game, you could sometimes find a new hole in the wall and run around within the walls - it sure drove the mobs nuts, heh.

Anyway, at 5, I think I played tag or rundowns or something like that. The first electronic game I ever played was my dad's TI "pocket" calculator - I seem to recall it being more educational than fun, though.

I remember my electronic stuff as a kid. Everything was those red little lines. My watch, my little mattel hockey and football games, and my TI calculator had that style.

I remember "playing" with my calculator too. I seemed to get a kick out of numbers, especially when I begun to understand how compound interest works in relation to my savings account. Considering I was an actuary for three years after school, my interest in the field never receded.
