XIII (Thirteen)

Post by Fairweather Pure »

This is an FPS game that mimics the look and feel of a comic book. It uses cell shaded graphics and is just awsome to watch and play. The demo is available for DL and I encourage people to take a look for yourself. You won't be dissappointed.

No, just no.
I want a game that lets me killpeople. Real people.
We've been fighting our way towards more realistic games for years, now all the sudden we're going to a color by numbers system.

Actually Akaran, the graphics are a highly-stylized work of art. For those who haved played Jet Set Radio Future on the Xbox, the graphics are similarly cell shaded with a more realistic style.

I downloaded the demo and played through it. I doubt I'll buy this unless you guys give it some stellar reviews when it comes out. The game was extremely linear, and I didn't really like the AI for the enemies or the fact that (at least in the demo) you were unable to save your progress on a level.

I'd say it's definitely worth a look.

I just thought it was different in it's own way and worth a look for anyone curious. I DLed the demo on a whim. I'd never heard of it before and didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. It has it's highpoints for sure. I like a game with it's own look and feel, and XIII has that in spades.

Btw, I won't be buying it either, for the same reasons Aranuil stated.

Seriously guys, they fucked up the Zelda franchise doing this same thing.
This is not somthing that should be encouraged. ><

The last Zelda was easily the best in the franchise IMO. You and Kyoukan are the only people I know that have mentioned they didn't like it. It also garnered great reviews and record sales. Even if you didn't like it, I don't understand how you could claim it somehow fucked up the Zelda franchise, which is doing better than ever. /shrug

I don't care what art is used in a video game as long as it's well done, and consistently done. The demo for XIII showed this was the case for XIII.

Jet Set Radio Future for the Xbox was nothing short of spectacular, and it used cell shaded animation as well.

*You* might not like that style, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

Aranuil, check out Endless Saga by Square/Enix and then make that comment about art again. I hate "sketch art".

Graphics are a huge part of a game IMHO.

I mean how many things can you really rank a game on?

Content?
Playability?
Graphics?
Sound?

There really isn't much to comment on most games....graphics rank up there.

After going through the demo 3 times now, I decided I am going to buy this game. It has so many top-notch details that it make this game a work of art. I especially like the grenade effects. It shakes your "frame" around and even after the blast, you have a simulated ringing in your ears. I am just curious to see what else the developers have crafted into the game.
