Time invested in EQ?

Post by a_guide »

Ok, that article from a thread below said that the average EQ'er plays for 10 months. I am curious as to how accurate that is for Veeshan. How long have you been playing/did you play?

I have played for three and a half years (the first 6 months on my brothers account  ) I got my own account after that and started my main on 4-20-2000 LoL My highest (play) char is 52 but I'm starting to focus on leveling her and don't see myself quitting anytime soon!

Tell me about your EQ? :D *hugs*

Hmm..I don't have the numbers right in front of me, but: I started playing in October of 99. I have a 61 Ranger with 100+ days and a 53 Necro with 20+ days played.

I think my total /played days between chars is around 220 days, with a few of those being in /bazaar mode.

just going on 2 years here, i think started part way through velious...wow newbies have it easy now days, sheesh, before you had to get to lvl 10 to get to NFP if you were an evil race, nowdays they have popup boxes telling them how to train skills and gain exp, and those fucking retarded guild master titles under the NPC names...i mean c'mon, they give you a note with the NPC's name and then have you spawn facing him 5 feet away

started sept. 99 and played till about 2002. Around the time Luclin came out is what killed my eq experiance, my comp wasn't good enough to run it so I had to look for amusement outside eq. Real life, ew.

Deneve, back in my day... getting from Greater Faye to Freeport was almost an imposibility... boat crashes would permently destroy all of your gear... things like Dvinn zonning out of Crushbone would wipe every single player in GF.... Mino Hero was an uber mob... and ports didnt exist for anyone yet...

Heh, you had it easy... :p

I played from launch till about 4 months ago with a 6 month break. As for played, it would easily between my chars be over 200 days. I'm a hardcore game player, you dont do that on 3 hours a day.

Started late August 99 and finally quit late April 2003.

I remember making my first trip from Faydwer to Freeport, it took about 2 hours. I ended up getting lost a number of times. :)

Hehe not sure how happy I am to write this, but around 206 played days.... And Minfetter was born february 12th 2001... YES I know I was an addict, but then again, this char has been used for guild bank bazaar'ing, own personal bazaar'ing as well. That would be around 70 of the played days.

Oh well. At least I can say that I'm finally done with the game, and keeping away from the temptation from playing it again. So that's at least something. :)

I started my first primary (druid) in August, 2000. By the time I reached 58, I'd had enough of that class, so I created Breeka and Calixte in March, 2001.

I still play pretty much daily, and I don't see myself quitting anytime soon. I still have plenty of fun in game. :)

I do plan on playing EQ2, though. Definitely looking forward to it, even though I know it'll be shit when it's first released.

Been around since April of 1999. Have over 200 days played although been on about a 3-4 month break where I have logged in maybe 5 times. Seems like it is about time to log some hours when I have the spare time now. If anyone would like some hot cyberz, shoot me a tell.

Karae was created on Oct. 11, 1999. Had a few characters before that, have been playing since about a week after release with only a 6-7 month break because of work.

I have almost 285 days played on Karae, about 120 days played on other characters on the account, and 25 days on my frog (another account).

But I'd say I'm above average. I think the statistic is accurate because the number of people who play for a short period and quit is a lot higher than those who play for years. It's just that those who play for years are more visible to the community and, so, create an artificial sensation that there are more of us. I'd venture to say that for every person that has become well known and played for years there are at least ten that nobody ever hears of and play fewer than 6 months.

edit: decided to ramble so my post would fit with my avatar. :o

I started in May of '99 and have played pretty consistently short of a year-long break that went from before Kunark was released until Velious release. I'm on another break right now, but chances are I'll be back when the cold weather returns. I think I have about 150ish days played on Sylvus, with probably 120-130 or so of those actually being me logged in and playing.

Heh, Ran kinda of beat me to it. Between banking before boating, the double death penalty, a 6 26 weapon being considered good until at least 30, having to verbally joust over EVERY single camp 30+, Velious age was practically a joke in terms of starting anew heh. Enough pontificating

Chid was born May '99 has ~36 days, Bordan has ~32 days, and Gorjah ~46 (w/ about 10 in the bazaar).

March of '99 for Fairweather. I just checked last night and I have 97 days played. I'm lvl 64 with 115 AAs and master in many tradeskills.

It seems to me that I play an aweful lot of EQ. I have no clue how some of you people have 200+ days played. Especially since you started after me.

April 99, 200 plus days on the cleric and still not 65. ( I suppose I should work on that :drinking: )

I was in Beta 3, 3.5, and 4....then I bought the game at release and played up until this feburary pretty hard core. So I'm pretty much tied with anyone who played from release until now...but next month you will pass me up since I don't play anymore. How long is that? 3 years of my life?

If you think the newbies have it easy now, you should have played in beta.

In beta the exp penalty was way worse, and items were even harder to get. They made the game easier when it went public, then again not too long after EQ was released, and again right before I quit.

I had like 40 days played on my cleric in beta...at level 16...I was wearing leather with a ring mail gorget, shiny brass shield and I might have had dwarven ringmail tunic....I used my summoned hammer because I couldn't afford all my spells let alone weapons lol. And that was after I took like 5 level 7 characters to freeport just to get thier stuff off them to sell to fund some purchases...karanis sold me my shiny brass shield BTW lol....he was a druid then.

The nuke spell Furor didn't exist causing a huge gap in nuke power at low levels I could melee for more then I could nuke ;-( also the enchanters didn't have animations, and various other issues....shit noone even knew what mez was for back then lol...I was a cleric for most of the time, my enc was only made the last day of beta so don't laugh too hard, I didn't have the mez spell yet.

Oh ya and the invisible mobs and such didn't make things any easier....imagine griffins in east commons with NOONE killing them, and to top it off a bug was making them invisible lol.

I remember in beta in EC watching in awe as a level 50 ogre in full steel plate with 2 yaks barely beat a griffen solo....with me chain healing him even though he warned me not to....although at level 16 I was not healing very well, but without my help he would have surely died. He was the most uber person I saw in beta...then again being level 16 I didn't go in many dungeons...I had seen rivervale, grobb, freeport, highpass, kaladim and everything in between....so pretty much everything that existed except dungeons....

I had seen some FoH back then, but they usually were running past me so fast I didn't get to take a good look heh....I dunno what level they were.

The only way you knew anything was by asking people....or learning yourself...you couldn't just like know how much dmg a spell did, or that certain spells were only available in a certain town or where to hunt next.

Hell I couldn't even get directions from grobb to freeport, I pretty much winged it and I died 3x to sand giants in sro and oasis on the way heh.

Oh and bugs got all my equipment a few times. Then again they got my gear in final too when I was level 30'ish.

why did i spend hours of my life playing eq when i could have been doing something worthwhile with my time... like watching fraggle rock or patenting the greatest cereal accessory known to man, thus becoming one of the most influential persons in breakfast food, and live out the rest of my days on a tropical island made of corn chex in a vast sea of ice cold milk full of swimming bananas

started july 1999, only charicter i ever made and played was xzion my mage, but then again when i was makin my char, my friend nildiven told me mages needed wisdom so some of my base stats kinda sucked, but xzion is still a super badass
hes 65 now with like 80 something AAs and still pretty good gear by todays standards, i think anyways

about 200 days and some change on my acct, about 180-190ish of me playing was a hardcore player after i joined CT and was pretty much until CT disbanded, now im a very casual player and i find it for the better, il probrably always keep my acct and log on it every now and then

no more online games here, i think of myself being pretty fucking stupid logging into EQ for so much time and not going out and doing fun shit becouse i had to make the 1st yelinak kill or something :?

Started playing Dec. 24, 1999. My husband and I shared an account until April, 2000. I started over on the new account as a druid, played the druid to 54 then started the cleric. (with an SK in between I think) Cleric is now 65 with 99 AAs. I'm still having a blast in the game and don't see myself quitting any time soon.

I started messing around on my bro's account in early Nov. 99 and finally got my own account in Dec. 99. I've been playing on and off ever since with a couple month long breaks inbetween. right now, I'm taking a break due to lack of finding a group as a level 55 enchanter. I just don't have time to sit around lfg for hours on end.

I'll probably start back one of these days, when my RL life starts to calm down. It's kinda fun making twinks though and getting them to the 30s in no time. My first character was a shadowknight back in 99 and I think it took me a good four weeks to hit level 20. My brother borrowed 1500pp from guild members of ours to fund me a Dark Reaver. Man that thing was the shiznit.
Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:

I started prior to Kunark. Had an enchanter and a mage. Quit both of them after lvl 8. Made a barb shaman "Corel" because I was wearing my Corel Linux tshirt that day. Played him to 56, took a break few months after Velious came out. Went to college, then came back to EQ a few months before Planes of Power as a rogue, Krut and played Corel when my friend who played him while I was at college wasnt on. He sold Corel without asking me, I got mad and went thru Sony to reclaim, Corel got banned for being sold, regardless of who sold him *burn*. He had 200+ days on him from my days before my break.

I created Korell Jan. 24th around the time LoY came out. Still dealing with RL and what not (women are the debil), I didnt get to play too much. In the last few weeks I've been non-stop since classes let out and im taking this Fall off to help move my parents/grandmother to a new house/city. Korell is 54 as of today. I also 3box now because I am tired of getting shit groups or having to deal with some people. Guess im antisocial even online.

BTW, I know this isnt news to anyone but, screw you SOE CS department. You assmasters don't even go by your own PnP rules anymore. What the hell is the point in having you outside of resetting people's surnames.

No argument the CS department needs work, but its not really the guides fault, theyre volunteers and limited volunteers at that. They can't really offer things other than a little morale. As far as GMs go, Ive met some good ones, and I've met some bad ones.

I have about 150 days on Behox, who was created Sept. 1st, '99...
took some time off from April '01 - December '01, and made Beasted on December 1st. I have about 110 days on him.

I think there's another 35 or so days spread out among other characters I've had... so somewhere around 300 days total over the course of three and a half years.

Fairweather Pure. To answer your question I think that you should look on your bazaar gimp, and then you'll have your answer to how we get above 200 played days. The thing is that a lot of people have gimps for selling. I just never felt like asking people to help me transfer items every day, so I could sell them. I just put Minfetter there, and as I said, about 70 played days are in /bazaar mode. He's been online numerous of times day in and day out just selling, and I only checked him once in a while.

OH oh oh. And there's always the HORRIBLE Stormfeather camp when I wanted my EPOP. Was awake for 48 hours straight before SF finally spawned. Been happy with the EPOP, BUT DAMN. Does that camp HAVE to suck that much? I know a lot of other people are upset with this as well, since SF should be the easiest of the parts... /sigh

Born Nov 99. First played on Cthuldan's computer on initial release around Mar 99, but never got my own account until I got around to buying a new computer (PI-133 to a PIII-450).

260+ days played here and I quit about 7 months ago. BTW it's a tad funny seeing people who joined post velious complain about how easy newbs have things.

Played since beta 2 with a break about the time RoK came out.

Too many days on my enchanter, I stopped looking. Don't know what played is on my other chars (levels 61, 58, 58, 56), never looked at all.

People on this board aren't a good example of your average EQ player IMO.

Started in July 1999, Canoe has well over 200 days, with another 50 or so i'd say on other chars on the account. Never 2 boxed, and haven't spent more than 1 day in the bazaar.
