28 Days Later... *SPOILERS*
Went out to see this one tonight. Let me just state right up front, I'm not good with scary movies. Now, let me also say... this one didn't really bug me at all in that sense. I went in expecting to be scared shitless, and came out still wondering when the other shoe was going to drop.
Don't get me wrong. There was the possibilities for a really good movie in there, they just decided to go certain ways that just muddled things up. For starters, I think the film had a bit of an identity crisis. Is it a thriller? Is it a drama? What it was was a mishmash, going from shakey camera quick cuts of slobbering... mutants I guess, to jovial scenes of smiling and happiness with bright cheery music to back it up. Just sort of left me sitting there going, "This is a little silly".
A few things I wanna ask of others who saw it. The virus, Rage... was it just manufactured in the monkeys by subjecting them to high amounts of visual stimulus? I mean, was it a virus called Rage, or was rage just the virus, if you get my drift. It's all I can really think it is.
Also, anyone with me saying the entire military plotline should have been axed because it was too damned ridiculous?
Sigh.. sorry, just dissappointed. Good movie.. just beneath the surface.. must.. set it.. free!

Going to have to revisist this on the bigscreen.. I thought it was executed brilliantly! Very nice deviation from the boring and trite hollywood shit that is being slung around.
The concept itself is not at all original, nor do I think was it intended to be. It seemed more of a tribute to Romero's Dead series (re: the 'Dawn' - like shopping spree). Nice and grainy, muted colors... trashy burned out buildings...
I loved it! Definately a step in the right direction. I hope to see more from these folks!

I wasn't that impressed with the movie as a whole....and definately it started to fall apart after the military showed up.
I think they should have spent a little more time explaining with the monkeys as well..I would have liked the additional background info more then the military scenes.
Like for example I'm still confused why the guy woke up in the hospital alone....where did everyone go? You assume if the doctors/patients were killed they would have found him laying in bed....
Maybe I missed something, I watched it on the small screen if you know what I mean.

You raise some good questions, however, questions were intended. Sometimes it is the intention to create something that doesn't spoon feed the audience with answers. Sure, often times uncertainty is a device used in poor filmmaking...only because they have a shitty story and need artistic devices to make themselves look 'smart'.
I think in this flick, they just had a low budget and loved zombie films.
I think George Romero would approve. It ain't for everyone, but I certainly dig 28 Days.... fun anti-pop sheep-exploding fun(exploding sheep was highlight of Peter Jackson's film 'Bad Taste').

I saw this movie a few months ago (downloaded it before they started advertising for it in North America) and loved it- and this isn't my sort of movie, usually.
I think the problem with this movie was the way it was marketed. Reinvention of the zombie horror movie? Sure, I guess. 'Scary as hell'? Not really, at least not in the horror movie sense of the word 'scary.' I think that what a lot of people expected was some over the top, all out zombie action, but I don't think that was ever really what the movie was intended to be about. Personally, I really liked the part with the military, I thought it was very well done, and was one of the creepier parts of the movie. However, if what I was expecting was "scary as hell" zombie horror, then I'd probably have a very different opinion of the ending.
This movie is much better if you haven't seen any of the stupid advertisements for it.

They evacuated the citys or died. You can see in the opening scene of the movie (after the prologue in the bio lab), that someone locked him into his room and pushed the key under the door so he could get out if he ever woke up.Pilsburry wrote:Like for example I'm still confused why the guy woke up in the hospital alone....where did everyone go? Hmm,
Watching this movie I kept thinking of "Omega Man" with Charlton Heston mixed with Night/Dawn of the Dead, with the subtle twist that the zombies instead of being slow moving targets are adrenaline pumped madmen.
On a larger note I find the concept of placing quarantine on an entire country to be an interesting concept, and perhaps the single most invoking idea of the film.

I saw this movie when it came out, wish I would have waited a few days so a friend could tell me not to waste my money. The movie was lame. If your girlfriend is anything like mine, and has to ask why MainCharacter has to do anything other then breathe then you might want to wait to rent this.
The whole movie made no sense, why would they only attack at night? They clearly were not zombies in the sense that they wanted to eat brains. The fight scenes were way stupid << ROAR FLASH ZOOM >>! Nothing "scary as hell" about it. If the army people had a clue, why would they wait for the father guy to walk around angry and get monster-ized before they poped out and shot him?
The ending was interesting, possibly the best part of the movie. During the movie it was mentioned that "Rage" had spread to the US and other places and that their radio and television broadcasts had been shut off. If something this detrimental would have happened then why wouldn't more extreme measures be taken? You would think its possible for an enraged bunch of "zombies" to get on a plane or a boat and make it over to other lands. Eh?

Just caught this movie today. I agree with everyone else that the whole military thing should have been different if not in the script at all. I would have liked to see more survivors and learn their stories and then see them all struggle together against the common bad guy.
I liken this movie to The Stand more than any zombie movie. Zombies at least had a goal in mind, like to eat brains. These "Infected" seemed to just go after anything that wasn't infected for some reason that was never explained. This movie also reminded me of the Omega Man. But once again, at least in Omega Man they explained why they only come out at night and not in daylight. The feel for the movie reminded me a lot of Reign of Fire as well. The life after an apocolyptic event.
Over all I liked the movie but they left so many things out that could have fleshed things out more. And the only gratuitous nudity (female) came from an infected chick running out the forest. *yuck*

Yes!
By Lucio Fulci!
-
This movie is not like Zombie.
Lucio Fulci doesn't go the same route that George Romero goes. Lucio makes this films meaning have to do with the End of the World.
When a priest hangs himself in a graveyard, he opens up the seven doorways to hell (seven gates). A reporter (Christopher George) has three days to close these portal before All Saint Day or "the moon will turn red and the dead shall rise and walk the earth". With help from Katherine Maccoll the two strangers travel to the town of Dunwich.
Where they find that terror has struck the town and turned some people into zombies.Watch out for the famous drill scene. Only strong stomachs need apply.
