Rose Colors and Their Meaning:

Post by noel »

This thread is dedicated to Pyrella, Voronwe, Winnnow, Sylvus, Stragi, Xouqoa, Laliana, Drolgin, Etasi, Zamtuk, Kyoukan, Brittney, Mezzdat, Kilmoll, Raistin, Legenae and Kaelina. (Xo, you might want to make this a sticky!)

With all the hate lately, I thought it only appropriate that I balance it out with a bit of <3. Important information for prospective rose buyers:

Red:
Love, beauty, courage and respect, romantic love, congratulations, I Love You, job well done, sincere love, respect, courage & passion

Red (Dark):
Unconscious beauty

Red (Single):
"I Love You"

White:
Purity, innocence, silence, secrecy, reverence, humility, youthfulness, innocence, I am worthy of you, heavenly and charm

White (Bridal):
Happy love

Pink:
Appreciation, "Thank you", grace, perfect happiness, and admiration, happiness, gracefulness, gentleness, please believe me

Dark Pink:
Appreciation, gratitude, thank you

Light Pink:
Admiration, sympathy, gentleness, grace, gladness, joy and sweetness

Yellow
Joy, gladness, friendship, delight, the promise of a new beginning, welcome back, remember me, "I care" and jealousy

Yellow with Red Tip:
Friendship, falling in love

Red and White:
Given together, these signify unity

Peach:
Closing of the deal, let's get together

Coral:
Desire

Lavender:
Love at first sight and enhancement

Orange:
Enthusiasm, desire and fascination

Black:
Death

Single in any color:
Simplicity and gratitude

Red Rosebud:
Symbolic of purity and loveliness

White Rosebud:
Symbolic of girlhood

Thornless Rose:
Signifies "Love at first sight"

So what is the difference between the orange roses that signify fascination and those that do not?

I grow mostly lavender and red roses! I think that signifies nothing except they look prettiest against my house!

I didn't write (or read) the original material! I just formatted it for posting! I'll edit out the extra orange!

Sirensa, would your lavender roses happen to be Sterling Roses? Those have to be the most beautifully fragrant roses ever!

And, Sterling Roses have no Thorns. They're terribly difficult to care for, and they don't tolerate cold very well.

I went to Six Flags over Texas last Friday and saw these neat roses, they came in all colors and were made out of feathers. Absolutly gorgeous and felt like real ones. My husband bought me a black one...wonder if he plans on collecting on my life insurance soon LOL.

Oh and one more thing.. black roses don't exist in RL! So them signifying death is fanciful at best. They are really just dark, dark red and their petals sometimes scorch in the sun.

:D

It's easy to grow roses in Oregon. For some reason we have a good climate for them. Unfortunately, its about the only thing I can keep alive in my yard :(

White, lavender and red roses all down the side of the house. They look nice, but that's got to be the most picky plant I've ever grown. The lavender ones smell great.

*Edit - no idea what kind any of them are, the white ones are huge and had an english name of some sort :)

Actually Aranuil...that list would vary based on where you are in the..guess I will say world since I was going to mention that in Texas, you would reverse the Yellow and Red. Well, to a Texan that didn't migrate here from California or some shit. :?

I was taught that yellow was admiration and respect...specifically, the color you would give to an elder.

Then again, there's not telling what is right and wrong with these anymore, they're almost like superstitions.

I understand that. I just wanted to point out that the true meaning behind the giving of a rose is the feeling behind it. The society that one is in is more than likely the one that will make someone understand it's meaning. Personally I like the yellow fading to red at the tip. It's all about the look, not the "meaning" :)
