A PUZZLE for all of you self-proclaimed gurus out there...

Post by Xaem »

SOLVED

Check http://www.puzzles.com/PuzzleHelp/Puzzl ... 36.htm#032 for the solution.

So you think you got what it takes to crack an extremely mind-numbing puzzle? Let's see what you can do...

Here it is:

Image

Okay.. Now here's how it works:

The goal of this puzzle is to draw a LINE through all of the lines in the box WITHOUT going through one line more than once (all of the lines between the red DOTS). You can't draw a line through any of the vertices and every line must be penetrated by the line you draw at least once.

Here's an example:

Image

Note: This is NOT a solution. Notice how one of the center lines has not been crossed over by the line I drew? The object is to draw a single line and have this NOT happen.

Once again you have to draw a single line through all of the lines between the dots WITHOUT going through one of the lines more than once.

Enjoy =)

You went through the upper-right line twice, Rask. Sowwy.

I'd like to see a solution to this puzzle. Because there are 3 "squares", each with 5 entry/exit points, I'm ready to conclude it's impossible. However, I know I'm not that smart, so I'm ready for you mensa-types to dazzle me with your brilliant solution for that problem. :)

After busting my brain over this for a good two hours, I came to the same conclusion Mplor did. The 3 figures with 5 sides only have one possible way for a line to pass through all 5 sides, that is with one end outside the figure and the other end inside the figure. This would mean that since there are 3 of these shapes, there would consequently have to be 3 line 'ends', one in each figure.

This was the only conclusion that I came to. I'm not sure that I am 100% correct, there may be a way to solve this puzzle considering each of the 5 sided figures share 2 sides with another 5 sided figure and one side with a 4 sided figure. So, if it is indeed possible, I would love for someone to post the solution. :)

There was a hint given something along the lines of:

You need to go through all the lines in the middle of the figure except for one, which you would have to go through at a later time...

The part you have in the middle there would only work if the line doesnt have to be continuous. As you have it drawn, if the line has to be continuous, then you would have to go through a side to the figure more than once.

But, if the line does not have to be continuous then this is correct...I suppose.

edit: In other words, try to trace the line without lifting up your mouse and you will see what I mean.

This story has a moral: The real test of the guru is not to know all the answers, but to be wise enough to know that some answers are unknowable - and to know the difference.

Horray for the gurus! =D>

Well I'll be darn, the key word WAS continuous, so I was right afterall. The people that said they solved it sure do look silly right about now. Not to mention that they lose all credibility from here on out in my eyes. Xaem, that was a money shot bro, nice puzzle.

The main problem here is there are 3 boxes with 5 lines to intersect.

A line through a box usually has 2 intersect parts, the wall in and the wall out.

Now you can take care of 2 of the 3 5-line boxes by having a line begin or end in there....

But that last one is eluding me.
