Laptop Question

Post by Diogenes60 »

Looking to buy an Alienware laptop for $2500.

I was comparing the Alienware laptops to Dell laptops, and I can get a much better AW laptop for the same price as a avg. Dell laptop.

Does anyone know why this is?

3.06GHz / 1k+ 1 SO-DIMM Ram / 533 fsb / 512 cache / Raedon 128meg graphics card
all for less than 3k dollars

2.5GHz / 533 2 SO-DIMM Ram / less fsb and cache / and a 64meg card
all for about the same price as the alienware laptop
This was a Laitude I believe.

Any Pros and Cons I should know about on either computer?

I'm typing this on a 51M.

The only cons to the Alienware are it's weight (about 10lbs.), and it's Battery life (about 1 hour).

If you're getting the laptop for gaming, there is no other laptop worth considering at this time. If you're getting it for working/travelling, you'd probably be better off going with the Dell due to it's weight and battery life.

There is no laptop on the market that will perform as well as an Alienware because most every high-end laptop uses the P4-Mobile where the Alienware uses the P4 desktop chip.

Highly recommend it.

Look at the warranty/service quality and reputation of both companies.

I know Alienware make kickass desktops but laptops are a whole different animal. When something buggers on an Alienware laptop, is it going to be out of commission for a week or 2?

What about size, weight, battery life and cooling?

Your best bet is to find some reviews and comparisons of the 2 models.

I work on Dell laptops OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS and I can tell you its like sitting a boiling pot on your legs after about an hour of it turned on. Dont let the temprature of the AW scare you off, they are by far the best gaming laptop out there hands down.

It really all depends on what you are buying it for. Gaming or business, both laptops are build for different things.

Thank you all for the info.

Im buying it 60% gaming and 40% work.

Kinda disappointed in the battery life of the AW, are there other batterys I could buy that would increase the life?

Weight isnt that big of a deal for me either. Although if I was having trouble choosing between 2, the weight could be the desiding factor.

You can buy a second battery that will take it up to 2 hours of life. I elected not to go with this option since two hours for a laptop is still shit (most Dell's will do 6) and I was planning on being plugged in most of the time. I'm fairly certain you'd have to swap the batteries, so it would be a real pain in the ass anyway. What color are you going to go with?
