DSL or Cable Modem and what bandwidth package?

I'm getting fucking raped but I just upgraded my DSL to 1.5 down 156up for $70.00 a month (Lube Prz).

Was just wondering what it's like in NON ass raping California for high speed access rates.

$40 cdn for DSL (what's that about $10 american?).
I'm not sure what my download restrictions are as I have never come close to hitting them.

I rarely download movies or games... the majority of my bandwith useage comes from playing games.

In the 4 years since I've been with this provider (Sympatico), I have never had any sort of extended downtime. Their network stability is outstanding.

We get ours through Comcast Cable and I believe I pay $39.95 a month since I get my cable tv through them as well. If you don't have their tv service, I think it's $49.95 a month.

I have Time Warner Cable. I have the "All Channels" package and about 2Mbits/sec broadband internet (download - upload is like 350k).

$99 / month

Includes about 300 channels in the cable plan, including about 40 premium channels.

I have a dedicated T1 in my apt, thanks to neither the phone or cable company offering any packages with decent upstream bandwidth. Its used for work so they pay for Half of it, but i still shell out 200$ a month.

I have the same package as the Time Warner, but it's through Insight Cable. I'm not sure how widespread that cable provider is.

I'm on Cable , been on it almost 6 years now. Started as @Home < AttBi < Comcast. I pay Nothing (perk of working for the company) The price in the Bay area should be $45.95/mo W/ Cable $59 w/Out. There are so many deals going on for the installs its almost ridiculous. Some friends have DSL and swear at/by it , depends on who ya talk too. I have had my cable on shit line the whole time, it has only dropped off once. That was because the Fiber splicers did a crappy job after a pole got taken out across town. In the end its your call. If you live in the Bay Area of Ca , drop me a pm and I can let you know if the area you live in is servicable. Much of the area has been launched over the last 2 months including the Central Valley areas.

I pay £29.99 per month for 512down/256up ADSL but I have to maintain a £13 a month landline as well. So about $60 in funny money.

I could get a better deal if I shopped around maybe but I just can't be arsed.

I pay about $126.99 a month for a full package from Time Warner. I have a cable modem, 2 cable recievers (one in the bedroom and one inthe living room) digital cable plus Stars! and HBO. I found out when I signed up that you save money but adding packages.

I've got Broadband Now, and they are the ONLY company here that provides high speed internet. Had I moved just a few blocks down, I'd have a choice between Comcast and several DSL providers. (I'm so bitter)

I pay $70 a month for 512 down, and that's with my own cable modem. (think it was $10-15 more a month to lease a modem from them, not entirely sure though) My connection is usually ridiculously slow, but since they don't guarantee a minimum connection speed and they know they are the only provider out here, they don't really seem to give a shit. <3

Same, runs ~$80 a month, will be less once I drop the movie channels

Depending on the site, 5Mb/s either up or down isn't unusual. The number of folks using data services on the local cable drop makes a huge difference in your speed. There are only 3-4 other customers on the same segment as me, runs amazingly well. I've no idea what the actual data rate your garaunteed is, or even if there is one.

DSL is a terrible deal here, would cost me more than double for a 1.5 bi-directional line. And I still wouldn't get a QoS agreement that was worth didly squat.

Cox Cable 59.99 or something a month because I don't subscribe to their CableTV and lease a modem.

DirecTV > Cable

On the bright side, it's incredibly fast. The planets don't need to be aligned for me to get a gig/hour download speed off their newsgroups. I get it all the time. Upload speeds aren't the best but good enough for the few times I need to upload large files.

69.95/month canadian for 640k up, 3 meg down DSL. I've had just a couple of hours downtime total in the 4 years I've been subscribing to bell sympatico here in Quebec. They're really one of the best ISPs around.

42.95/month for 756k up/down DSL. It's a neat plan, because I know the owner of the ISP, and all of their level 3 (highest level) techs. So I get free months all the time. Like sometimes they'll call me up and ask me to troubleshoot a problem they might be having. That will net me 2 - 3 free months. Or else they'll route a Customer Service call to my cell phone and that will get me a free month or two. They might be upgrading me to quad dedicated t1's so I can run a server for this area, that would be nice. mmmm.........

On that note, my one friend has a 7.1mb down 2.5mb up DSL connection in his house. God that thing screams for the LAN parties. It's also nice to see download speeds of 1.5mb a second. God that is cool.
