Best Console Game.
Since there is a thread that mentioned some great console games and I work in the video game industry I'm rather curious as to some of the favorites around here. So the question is what is your favorite and why.
The Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy series are my favorite. Devil May Cry due to it's scary but I'm not intimitdated playing a survival horror in this game. Final Fantasy because I love hearing and seeing a good story unfold.

GT3 on PS2 , my personal fav
I just cant take all the drama involved in some of the RPG type games or action adventure. I want to get on race win and bash a few cars up in the proccess. I tried the other day WRC for ps2 , Hated it , Way too rough on the driver.
My kid (9yr old male on the 12th) is in Love with Ratchet and Clank , damn lil shite will NOT put that game down at all.
On Gamecube my fav was SSX trickyimho much better on Gamecube than PS2 , and the controller tech for Gamecube is WAY better , I love the Wavebird wireless controller.

Final Fantasy is my favorite RPG series but they keep going like futuristic with gun swords etc...I'm not into that crazy shit...bring it back old school like FF 1...that was a good game...they just re-released it for PS1...but the graphics is horribly out of date and the world is pretty tiny.
I think FF1 was the first game that I can truly say made me not want to stop playing.
I don't like Xenosage so much, Claritin loaned me his and it just not holding my attention.
Summoner 2 was pretty cool you really got to develop skills and control the characters and it made a huge difference once you figured out how. At first I was controling mainly the warrior or the summoner chick, but eventally I put the majority of focus on the rogue....the rogue owned. Another cool thing was the missions where like they would make a character go alone...or the mini-games....I really liked that game.
Do you guys kinda play games different now? I find myself pulling, kiting, mezing stuff if they gave me the abilities.....it's kinda ruining some games.

FFX was really good, but I didn't like the fact that you had to go though almost the entire plot before freeing up the airship.
My most favoritest game is Vice City. The only way that game could be better is if it came with a hooker.
Tiger Woods PGA 2003 is fucking awesome. My friends and I have started having Sunday afternoon skins challenges. The shit talk and bong smoke both hang heavy come the last few holes.

I really liked the new zelda game at first but after I got over the cool new cel shaded graphics and attention to detail it just started to play like every other zelda game ever made. Nintendo needs some new gimmicks.
I think my favorite console game is the gamecube resident evil remake or GTA3/Vice City.

Yeah, you can get it on PS2. Can play with controller or buy mats to put on the floor to jump on. They even make metal mats, you can get em on ebay pretty easily for $60. Much fun! Just make sure you don't live in a second or third floor apartment! =Dmasteen wrote:Thay have that for console?miir wrote:DDR

Right now, tossup between Skies of Arcadia Legends for GC, NBA Street 2, and Xenosaga. Xenogears is up there with my favorite RPGs of all time, Final Fantasy Tactics being #1!
And um..Super Smash Bros Melee and Timesplitters 2 get a lot of multiplayer play

I couldn't stand the targetting on Time Splitters 2... I bought the game and traded it in within two weeks. Maybe it's just the XBox version that was bad though, a lot of people have said they loved it. =o

On Gamecube controllers it's a lot like Halo controls. You know there's like 4 control schemes right? Might have been one you liked better, hehe..
Speaking of, I used one of those new smaller xbox controllers at best buy..those things own

Vice City was the reason for buying my PS2 and was well worth it.
For those of you who don't own PS2's but still want to check it out, it is being released for the PC next week with superior graphics and a few minor customizable bits like character skin and radio stations.
Also I don't know if someone can add to this but there is a rumor Rockstar is producing a sequel based on Las Vegas called GTA: Sin City.

It wasn't so much the button set up as much as it was that the target always gradually went back to the center of the screen. In halo you can run around looking straight up if you want and not have to keep the targeting box positioned.. it'll just stay there. Didn't do that in TS2.

Twisted Metal: Black for the storylines. Play this game if you have a PS2... and be ready to be disturbed by the endings.
FFX for the general FEEL of the game..
FFIII was my first real RPG.
DMC1 was uber. DMC2 was a letdown, lacked the horror of the first.
MK: Deadly Alliance rules..

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Best multiplayer fighting: Super Smash Bros Melee, GC. Great graphics, never drops in frame rate even in the most intense fights, and the controls are simple and easy to pick up, but also give room for a lot of advanced combos for those who play it every waking moment, like myself.
Best multiplayer FPS: Goldeneye, N64. It may not have Halo's great polish or even a decent multiplayer frame rate, at the time it came out it was by far the most addictive and fun multiplayer game ever. Also in my opinion it was very easy to control, as opposed to Halo which I can't stand. One of my roommates has an Xbox with Halo and TimeSplitters 2, but thats sitting in his room in a closet because right now we have the N64 out in the living room with 4 controllers and Goldeneye.
Best puzzle game: Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Genesis. Also known as Kirby's Avalanche for those who played Super Nintendo, but this one had cooler music so I chose the Genesis version. Plus the Sonic characters are much cooler than Kirby.
Best quirky action/puzzle game (for lack of a better category): Maniac Mansion, NES. They just do not make 'em like this anymore, and its a damn shame. This will always surpass any Star Wars game as the best Lucasarts game ever made, with the exception of Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max Hit the Road, but those weren't console games.
Best RPG: Three way tie between Chrono Trigger, FF 3 for SNES, and FF7 for PS. The first two were just incredibly solid games with awesome stories and great replay value for an RPG. The latter revolutionized video game storytelling as we know it, taking great advantage of the PS's capability for utilizing prerendered FMV sequences, and combining them with a great story to make a game that feels like an interactive movie.
Best sports game: Mike Tyson's Punch Out, NES. How can you not love this game with such stereotypical characters like Great Tiger, King Hippo, Von Kaiser, and Piston Honda? Plus the novelty of a Mike Tyson video game makes it great without even playing it.
Best driving game: Crazy Taxi, DC. I'm not a big fan of driving games, but they kept this one simple and addictive. And the soundtrack of Bad Religion and Offspring made it that much sweeter.
Best platform game: There are way too many awesome ones and different categories of platformers to just pick one, but far and away the best from each major dynasty are: Super Mario Bros 3, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Contra III (<a href="http://maddox.xmission.com/contra3_owns.html">Best game review ever</a>), Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Mega Man 3, and Metroid 3.

FFI was my first game eva...and I recently bought the PS1 version just to play through it a hundred more times. absolutely, hands down, a fantastic game years ahead of the rest at the time.
Right now, my favorites have to be Metroid Prime and the new Zelda for gamecube. Both games have such a cool new feel to them, and actually have replay value

I'm not the big driving game fan but I enjoyed helping my husband find all of the hidden packages in Vice City. Unfortunatly due to that game I know have a broken speaker in my entertainment center. Apparently racing the driver for the Malibu missions is rather hard...
I forgot to mention Super Mario Bros for SNES is the win as well as Mario Cart, another very addictive game.

River City Ransom was one of my favorite NES games. I liked RCR because it was the first game that let you beat high school kids with baseball bats and then take their money to go buy sushi or cd's. There ought to be more games like that I think.Vannoth wrote:Best console game ever?
Super Dodgeball for NES. Nuff said.
That or maybe
River City Ransom on NES. Nothing like high school kids killing each other needlessly with pipes. Japanese animation graphics make it all ok.

I was also one of those kids who played Super Dodgeball to death in the arcade... I must have blew hundreds of dollars in quarters on Dodgeball, Ghouls N' Ghosts and later, Street Fighter 2. Money well spent, imo. I've yet to come across anything that comes close to catching my attention the way those games did... although some of that is probably due to the magic of videogames when you're a young.

I can play DDR with the controller but I suck with the dance pad. This white girl has no rythm lol.
