Where I am from, we call them Crawfish.. most likely due to the fact that we have a Crawfish Festival every year in one of the city parks. (Tualatin, OR).

roflmao, Vor.

I thought mudbug as soon as I saw the question.

And around here you hear mudbug, crawfish, and crawdad. It depends on who's talking and what you are talking about. People won't admit eating mudbugs, they'll call them crawfish when they mean food.

hehe.

i grew up calling them Crayfish. Which is incidentally what they are referred to in scientific literature as well. I dont say that to act all snooty, because common names (Crayfish, Crawfish) dont mean jack and they vary regionally.

cool poll imo =)

How about an "All seafood/fishy stuff is not worth naming" option.

Fish is the yucks. I hold my breath when I walk past the butcher area of the grocery store because of the smell. Just to be fair I tried some supposedly great shrimp when we went out for Japanese Teppanyaki last night and it was still the nastiest thing I've ever tasted.

However I do like any non fishy Teppanyaki :) Image

The only seafood I like is tuna, and only if it's in tuna salad form. Everything else is nasty.

I like fish only if it's fresh or frozen properly to keep it from stinking like a crack whore's snatch.

One of my folks' best friends is a fisherman here. Talk about fresh, some of the fish are still gasping when we fillet them!

I move too much to vote, I've hear it called all 3 and can't remember which state i heard them called what in.....

But honestly....all seafood is nasty.....it smells bad, it's a pain to eat....

You guys eat like cockroaches and spiders but since it comes from the water it's different? I don't understand how you eat water bugs and other such stuff...

I mean I don't find you disgusting for doing so, maybe they taste good to you? I dunno....but I don't think it has much flavor, it's expensive....some of it is good for you...well better then steak/burgers...

But you won't catch me eating it unless it's to make someone else happy.

I call them crawfish or crawdads but I voted for crawfish since I think that's what I use most often.

BTW, sushi is not raw fish - that's sashimi. A lot of sushi is actually made with cooked (*gasp*) shellfish.

Crawfish is the proper food term. Every spring I cook about 600Ibs for the people I work with. You must have Corn, Patatoes, Mushrooms, Sausage, Garlic, Onions, and Lemons with them though. Some of the best eating IMO.

Bah, the only "real" Crawfish Festival is in Breaux Bridge...

You should never smell fish...if you can smell it, it is not fresh.

And yes, your local grocery store is notorious for selling not so fresh fish.

I call them crawfish...

No they look like mini lobsters and it doesn't really hurt when they get hold of ya unless they stay attacked for awhile. Think I have had maybe 3 in my life break the skin.

Sweden is the world's largest consumer of crawfish (last year 3000 tons).
During August people host crawfish parties everywhere, where we wear funny hats, worship the moon, drink loads of vodka, sing weird tunes, have non-consequential sex, and eat crawfish.
