NHL Playoff Updates
Ducks draw first blood 1-0 in Dallas. I was guessing Dallas in 5, but Anaheim looks pretty tough so far. If they can steal the first game, I think they actually have a shot..

WOW! That was a fucking exciting game!! I don't like either team, but gotta give props to good hockey. 4-3 Duckies in triple OT.
DOH! NO GOAL!!!!! He was in the crease I think!! Good fucking christ, it continues!
EDIT: Looks like the goal post lifted off right as the puck crossed the line actually...

Great Game, came in as 4th longest playoff game in NHL history.
Number one goes to:
Longest Moment
One of the most exciting things about Stanley Cup playoff hockey is sudden death overtime. When the next goal decides the winner, games can go on for hours and hours. The longest NHL playoff game happened on March 24, 1936 between the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Maroons. The game finished at 2:30 in the morning when Martin "Mud" Bruteneau scored the winning goal for the Maroons after 116 minutes and 30 seconds of extra time - that's nearly six periods of O.T. The final score was 1 - 0.

I'm still upset that the Stars moved to Dallas. And I'm not even a hockey fan. (I did watch the games of the Stars vs. Penguins in '92ish - I grew up in Minnesota).Chidoro wrote:Sorry, still have trouble thinking of the Stars w/out a big N on their jersey.
I thought I saw the Wild in the playoffs - are they still in it? Would that be a game to watch? Wild vs. Stars

Wild knocked out the Colorado Avalance in 7 and now play the Vancouver Canucks. Should be a good series, but I'm not sure if they can stop Vancouver or not!Llaffer wrote:I thought I saw the Wild in the playoffs - are they still in it? Would that be a game to watch? Wild vs. Stars

Yes, this will be a great series, I'm very excited.Should be a good series, but I'm not sure if they can stop Vancouver or not!
I believe they have the potential to win, we'll see what really happens. The've had a bit of a rivalry going on, should be a lot of hard hitting and whatnot

I know we've beaten them during the regular season, may we beat them again now...
Seeing as I live in MN, I would soooo love to see this!Would that be a game to watch? Wild vs. Stars
I will never forgive Norm Green....even if it was a good business decision for himself...Fuck him!
PS...a lot of the Ducks movie (can't remember which one) were in MN..I remember them going to a N Stars game and being awed....

Vancouver tied the game with 1.2 seconds left in the 3rd period. Never seen that happen before, but I can now put it down on my check list of things I've completed in my life!

I've seen it happen a lot where the other team scores in the last 5 seconds, however it was always Vancouver letting it in! I jumped for joy when they tied it up, and even more so when they won it. I seriously thought the first game was over wth 20 seconds left (the canucks usually choke).Xouqoa wrote:Vancouver tied the game with 1.2 seconds left in the 3rd period. That is long time ago and if we played again I don't think we would win heheXouqoa wrote:No cause the Danes still got beat 67-0 by Canada. Even if it was 50 some years ago.

Absolutely - Congratulations to Denmark.Drolgin Steingrinder wrote:Would this be the correct thread for me to poke fun at the 'mericans after Denmarks 5-2 win over the US at the World Hockey Championships?
Had the Stars and Flyers not still been the playoffs, freeing up players such as Hatcher, Modano, Young, Guerin, LeClair, Amonte, and Roenick, I'm sure you would have only won 5-4. Seriously, USA hockey only seems to play well when the tournement is in their own continent, and as a fan that is BS.

omfg who told the Ducks they could play hockey???
People in the East, there is one thing left to say: fear the power of the Devil(s). Martin Brodeur will win the Conn Smythe.
Internationally, I snickered when Hikes or Lokes (or whatever that Lego Penis Enlarger Salesman calls himself) crowed on my guild's boards about the Danish victory over the USA. Realistically though, there are only 3 tourneys that are true indicators of hockey supremacy:
1) World Juniors - the best 16-20 yr old players from all over the globe play it out over Christmas every year, giving us a preview into the stars of the future
2) The Canada Cup (now referred to as the World Cup by the Heathens) which is held sporadically and features the best talent of the NHL playing for their respective national teams.
3) The Olympics - as long as the NHL supports them feature the best hockey players from around the world. Period. If the NHL backs off Olympic support then it becomes a watered down event like the Spengler Cup or the World Championships (which are held annually, while the real boys are chasing Lord Stanley's Mug).

In my point of view, best case scenario ..
2nd round
TB polishes off Devils
Sens take out Flyers
Semi-finals
Vancouver takes out the Wild
Ducks kill the Stars
Sens beat TB
Vancouver beats the Ducks - Not likely if it goes like this
Finals - Ottawa kicks the crap of whatever teams comes out of the west!!
