This is a lot more than swiping some ashtrays from Sadam's Palace. I understand people wanting a souvenir, but this is a bit ridiculous.

on the military. Just glad they caught them. It happens every war, however they (leaders of the units) have been more diligent on catching them at it (the items are considered contraband).
We even had soldiers trying to send home casings from exploded ordinance. Nothing on the scale of this however.

My grandfather, who was in a Ranger squad not unlike the one in Saving Private Ryan, told me stories of looting that was done in castles throughout the land during his 9 months in WWII (he was older and drafted later in the war). Silverware and paintings were normally taken and sent back to the states. The one item my grandfather took was a sword that was on a wall with Goerbels' signature inscribed. My grandmother couldn't stand having anything about the war around and made him give it away sometime back in the 60's.

I haven't said that but reading that article it said that there are some servicemen being questioned about missing cash. Should be easy for them to solve that.Well so much for what certain people here said! You know who you are, you claimed that NO American soldier looted anything!
The other serviceman tried to send home a couple of guns he took off the enemy which isn't to unusual for soliders of any nation to do.
You did notice they talked about the media people in this article right?

It's not like they're exactly getting paid what their worth to do their job, either.

But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

There's a difference between offering insight as to why they were doing it and saying it's ok.
