The Rules of Attraction

Interesting movie.. just watched it.

It's a little strange, but the cinematography is pretty cool throughout the film.

The best part is Jessica Biel acting really slutty and hawt.

I know this is cliche, but if you liked the movie, you should really read the book. For those who don't know, it was written by Brett Eason Ellis, the same guy who wrote American Psycho and Less than Zero. Sean Batemen in Rules of Attraction is actually the brother of Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, although you don't get to read much about their relationship.

The book version of Rules of Attraction tells close to the same story as the movie but in a much better way. In the movie they took the whole "rewinding scenes" gimmick and butchered the story to be able to implement it. Explaining what I mean would give away parts of the book and the movie though, so I won't say much. There was also a gay relationship between the two main characters Sean and Paul in the book, with sex scenes that were described in detail. I was anxious to see how they'd cover that material in the movie, but I was dissapointed when their solution was to remove their relationship entirely.

The book does have a lot of sex in it, so it would've been really easy to turn the movie into one gratuitous sex scene after another. But to the their credit, they avoided doing that. However, removing so much of the sex from the movie made it so that it was much harder to understand the relationships between a lot of the characters.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, the movie was good, I really enjoyed it, but having read the book I probably enjoyed the movie more than I would have since I understood the relationships between the characters much better. I'd recommend checking out the book for a really fun read, and checking out the movie afterwards.

i agree with echols here, ive been reading OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of Ellis lately, and i watched the movie midway through the book

the book is MUCH better(minus a few aspects, the drugdealer in the movie > the one in the book imo), the relationship between the characters is much more complex, which imo is the core of the book

the movie reduces is to a he loves her loves him loves her etc... kind of thing,

still a great movie
