Haha, GO Wings GO!!
No Bowman + Joseph vs Ducks = First round embarrasmant
I guess Pat Quinn knew what he was doing getting rid of that useless goalie.

Please explain how ... or are you just being a troll?Xzion wrote:hockey just looks like a cheap rip off version of soccer
I must admit, though I picked the Detroit in my office tournement for this round, and I am typically a sucker for original six teams, I have found myself rooting for the Ducks in this series. They are skating well, but what I really love is the play of their goalie - he looks like he's the real deal.

Ya, Giguiere has been awesome. I fully credit him for the Ducks three victories. He's stopped shit that anyone would have problems with.Ogbar wrote:Please explain how ... or are you just being a troll?

He's also gotten some help (two or three goalpost dings last night alone for Detroit) but that's not an excuse, really. He's just outplayed Joseph, and that's why the Wings are down 0-3.
That second goal that Joseph gave up last night was bullshit. He shouldn't be going out of the net that far to play a puck with a defenseman right there when it's a fucking 1-0 game. What was he thinking?

It's okay Sylvus, I think Miir is a Leafs fan - which explains the hostility.Sylvus wrote:Yeah, the Wings are no good, really. I guess we might have to settle for only winning the Cup 3 out of the last 6 years as opposed to 4 out of the last 6. Losers!
He just is bitter cause he doesn't know how sweet it is to win a Cup.. what's it been for Toronto, like ... 60 years or something? I know how you feel though, I'm a Cubs fan. It's been almost 100 years since they won the World Series.

My house was an absolute nightmare last night. My (red wings) hockey crazed family (with the exception of me) was up ranting and raving at the television all night...
When I remind them that their shouting at the refs doesn't affect the game, they all just glare at me.
I didn't watch any of the games... but when I went into the living room to snag a peak, the duck's keeper is really really gud.

Nah, I'm not trying to make excuses or feel sorry for myself. =) If they lose, they lose. Plenty of other good matchups to watch. I just hope they don't get swept or I will have to cry myself to sleep like a little girl tomorrow night. Cujo did great
It was not CuJo's fault that the Wings lost, CuJo did great.
The Wing's offense was not up to par with how they played through the regular season. This is what hurt them in these 4 games.
Yes, I am a Wings fan (Live in Michigan), and felt bad that they were embarrassed so badly.
What will hurt though is you are likely to see some big names go elsewhere... The Wings payroll is largely dependent on post season games.
Next seaaon might be ugly for the Wings.

Yes, one of the main reasons they got swept was Curtis Joseph. It was not CuJo's fault that the Wings lost, CuJo did great.
Average goalies do not lose games for you... at least 1 loss in the series was a direct result of his actions.
Good goalies help teams stay in games that they should be losing. Joseph never kept the Wings in any of the 4 games.
Great goalies win games that teams should have lost. The Wings deserved to lose every game in this series.
So Curtis Joseph played less than average.
You don't pay a player 8 million dollars to be less than average.
Who really lost the series for Detroit is Dave Lewis.
He didn't have the balls to make any changes at all.
He took 1 page out of Bowman's book of coaching and never bothered to read the rest.
A real coach would have started Lagace in game 3.
A real coach would have shaken up the lines.
A real coach would have benched some of the players who looked disinterested out there.
Dave Lewis doesn't deserve to coach an NHL team, let alone the defending Stanley Cup champions.... he'd be out of his league coaching pee-wee.
It's sad to see a dynasty dismantled by these 2 incompetent individuals.
On another note, the Philly/Toronto series has been incredibly entertaining.

Nah, I doubt you'll see much movement away from the wings. Most of the players really like Dave Lewis, and even though they went out in the first round, so did Scotty Bowman two years ago. And anyone who offers a dissenting opinion to the fact that Scotty Bowman is the greatest coach in the history of the NHL, if not all of sports, is full of shit. Mike Illich is committed to the Wings and he understands that you can't win all of the time. In fact, I listened to an interview with Mickey Redmond this morning, and he said that he thought the Wings would have a $65-70M payroll next year just like this year.
We'll most likely lose Robataille and perhaps a couple others, but for the most part I'd expect the same people to be back.

Who would have thunk it, definately the story of the Playoffs thus far. The freaking Ducks?!?
For as many years that Red Wings fans brow beat and pummel my Blues time and time again, it's really comforting so see them feel our collective pain, even if it's just this one instance.

Better luck next time Xou, at least your team has *won* a Stanley Cup a few times in the past few years.

Wings didn't deserve to win. They played sloppy a large amount of the time. So sloppy that I can't recall saying "what the fuck" so many times during a playoff series while watching them.
I do wonder if something was going on behind the scenes though, as Federov was quoted as saying "We're a very angry team right now. I can't get into it right now but I will later." or something to that effect. Wonder what the deal is?
Oh and a hearty fuck you to Joseph for stopping 3 out of 27 shots last night. The second goal in regulation and the OT goal were stoppable, but he was out of position and caught off balance (again). Why did Hasek have to retire? >< He's not the only reason they lost, but his play was not anywhere near the level I've seen him perform in the past.

I laugh at the ineptitude of the NY Rangers organization. I just wish they hadn't been able to buy their cup in the 90s. Although they have the highest payrolls in the NHL, there is a marked difference in the way the Rangers and the Red Wings have done business in the last couple years: the Wings have retained a lot of talent by paying them well and gone after key positional free agents, where the Rangers have thrown big money at almost any big name free agent available, in their bids to win the Cup (or to even make the playoffs
).
So much for Glen Sather's claims that "if he had the Ranger's budget" he coud win Cups every year (from his Edmonton days)... I hope they skid his ass, like they did to Neil Smith.
At least, for all the harm they may have done the league in terms of salary escalation, the Wings have something to show for it...

hehe Oggie, i dont know, was kind of before my time here. though i do see the odd Flames jerseys when i hit a thrashers game. The Atlanta fanbase is growing, but most of the games also feature tranpslants from the north who are truly diehard fans for the Bruins, Wings, Rangers, etc.
regardless, i think the Thrashers will do well here. Heatley and Kovulchuk are fun to watch, and I love going to hockey games. What i won't love is the fact that my company is selling them and i'll have to start paying $80 a pop to go to games next year

You know, the Bruins have good, young players in their foundation, too - but they suffer from having shitty ownership. If the Atlanta owner is committed to putting together a winning team, then I agree 100% with your assessment.
And you're right, hockey is a lot of fun to watch live, even at $80.

Good riddance to the Deadthings..
In defence of Cujo, cut the guy some slack. When your team scores a total of 6 goals for the freaking series and you have the talent that Detroit has to offer on offense, then there are plenty of others to share the blame.
Detroit finished first in scoring in the league during the regular season. They were 7th in the league in goals allowed. (One of the teams that finished ahead of them were the Ducks by the way).
Bottom line is the Ducks out worked and out hustled an offensive team that happen to also get stoned by a very hot goal tender.
I also noticed that Wulfran's Islanders get to join the Wings on the golf course while my Blues are still playing for the moment.
The thing about the Wings is they are not a young team and you wonder how much the team had left in the tank for the playoff run. Bowman played the season to get ready for the playoffs. I think that might have gotten overlooked this year.

hehe yeah that's pretty funny
Know what's more funny? The fact that the Blues and Avalanche were both up 3-1 in their series and now are both forced to play a Game 7. Two of my least favorite teams might get bounced from the playoffs the same day. That would almost (but not quite) make up for the Wings early exit.
(btw I'm a Vancover fan for the rest of the season)
