Fuck sony's naming policy.

Post by Funkmasterr »

I logged on the other day and see in my life box that my surname is no longer flex, but its just _ . thats right, an underscore. I have had my name for going on three years now, and to say the least I was furious. I finally got ahold of a gm-admin today and was told that my surname was in violation of naming policy 5 and my first name was in violation of naming policy 10.

She told me I might lose my first name too.. after 3 years.. this will make me mad beyond the point of having any chance to return. Not to mention, I have heard of a handful of other people who lost their names over the weekend.. I am thinking maybe one of the gm's wives cheated on them and they are taking it out on us. .. stupid fucking naming policy

you made your character fully aware of the naming policy did you not?
if so, how could you possibly expect a name like funkmasterr flex to not eventually get changed?

Isn't there a grandfather clause still? I remember something about if you keep your last name till like 50 then you can keep it or something. It may have just been BS. But it might be something to look into.

As far as I remember, there USED to be a grandfather clause at 50.. but that was before Kunark.

the grandfather clause was only for clauses they added after the game came out, for surnames like D'Basher or whatever else that made it look kind of like a title.

Like Kyou said, you were in violation when you created that name. How anyone could get away with stealing a name from the music industry, or movie industry, or even some TV sitcom character, is beyond me.

Gerby Baby. Gone
Brittney Spears. Nope
Millie Vanilli. Nope
Funkmaster Flex. Adios

Hell, I personally petitioned to get two names changed. HomerSimpson and Homerjsimpson. Both of those meet with a quick demise.

Again...stealing a name from TV is so lame and unoriginal.

Yeah, Funkmasterr Flex is a pretty gay name.

You should be happy you kept your stupid name for as long as you did.
I remember the public humiliation Dubmasterj got in Gfay when he was forced to change his name. The GM gave him like 5 minutes to think of an alternate name... the guy was being a prick and giving the gm a hard time so he force changed his name to 'Strifantiliz'.

I got my name nerfed long time ago....used to be Gutboy Barrelhouse back in the day....and lady daegarmo informed me it was unroleplayish and changed my name to Nermil.....then i had to fight with the ass for a week to get it changed back but he insisted since he black listed the name he didnt have the power to turn it back. So he named me Gutboi Barrelhouse(Which was back in late 99/early 00 so Avril stole it from me!)....afterwhich I decided it looked gay...so got it changed to its current form...

That shit just ain't right..

I have a level 31 Druid named Reunited Clan... at the time I was an officer in Reunited Clan.

I have been petitioned at least 6 times that I am aware of, and I have not had to change my name... for them to enforce the name policy on some people (you) and not on others (me) is just wrong...

I explained to the Guides and GM's that spoke with me about it that it was created as a joke, and that I was more than willing to accept a name change... I think they left my name in place as a punishment for being stupid enough to use my guild name for a character name in the first place...

Yeah, the "grandfather clause" went out the window with Kunark. I think I was around 54 when my original surname was taken. I was told that my first name would not go away though. When the last name left the first wasn't "as bad" per the GM. The only reason that I had my surname actually removed was that it created a phrase when combined with my first name.

Nameing policy...

Post by Lohrno »

They should just flat out get rid of it. I mean it's not like EQ is made for roleplaying, and someone who wants to roleplay is going to be able to do so. Sit there and play, and try to roleplay once, and count how many times an hour your immersion gets broken. I bet it's more than 20...If you turn off ooc and guildsay, and shout, and everything I bet it's still more than 20...(IE It's sony's fault for not making the game conducive to roleplaying, so why bother have a naming policy at all?)

EQ is very condusive to roleplay.

People whined that AO wasn't conducive to roleplay but there were prominent guilds who were 100% roleplay.

What elements in Everquest would hinder your immersion if you were are dedicated roleplayer?

you can't RP in EQ because its all about powergaming and all the uber guilds get all the cool stuff and I can't RP with that and I should be singled out and rewarded for my role playing skills and powergamers ruin everything and whine whine whine bitch moan cry sob.

I had a GM tell me Guapo was an inappropriate last name to have.

Feeling a bit confused, and wondering how in the world it was bad. I sent him a tell back.

He said, I have seen the pics of you IRL and you are not good looking. Muwahahahaha. NOT FUNNY! I kept the name though :)

Wijdan tried to take both my name and surname once (Acies De`Umbra), saying both were violations (Both are latin).

Well, the dick did get my surname, completely disregarded the naming convention of the "De`'s" when used in a not common or generalized format (Latin is NOT a generalized or common format).

Well, about three days later I get Saiphos, and he gives me back my surname, and adds it to my SK, my Nerco, and about 8 of my friends Dark Elf characters.

FU Wijdan!

I agree with the GM, and I agree that you should lose your first name as well.

The problem isn't really the policy, it's the selective enforcement of said policy. Allowing someone making $8.00 an hour, whose only prior Customer Service experience entailed the sale of hamburgers and french fries, to operate on their own discretion is ALWAYS a bad thing. It promotes favortism, bias, and all other forms of corruption. The fact that it took them 3 years to address this obvious violation is evidence of a myriad of failings withing the Guide and GM systems.

In short, sucks that you don't have friends in 'high' places to continue to bend the rules for you, suck it up and move on.

I've petitioned names like proontang, poonannie, and the gm said there wasnt anything wrong with em. So, I gave up, hell theres a cleric named Adobe Photoshop runnin around. Personally im about sick of seeing people like 'imanuberwizard nookshitgood' or 'jooneeda cleric.'

Enforcement of the name policy imo means that maybe, just MAYBE, we have somebody watchin our server who actually gives a shit.
