FPS
Ok, I'm looking for a good FPS game. Just pulled Jedi Knight 2 out again after like a year, and am still in the mood after beating it. Here's what I'm looking for tho:
- A good single player storyline
- Preferably futuristic in theme
- Huge plus if the story can be played in a cooperative mode
I don't care about PvP, just doesn't get my blood going. I remember playing Doom 2 cooperative with a friend of mine (or was it Doom?), and it was a serious blast. This was years and years ago of course. Would like to find another game like that if possible.

Deus Ex
Max Payne isnt quite FPS but they did an excellent job with the cliche action-movie story
RtcW has a great story until it gets paranormal, still fun
and half-life of course
none of them are coop, but not many fps are these days.. at any rate, you wont be disappointed with any of those

Unlike many, I thoroughly enjoyed Unreal 2.
The graphics are jaw-dropping, the missions are varied and interesting (although some are a little short) and the sound is top notch.
It's one of the few games that made me jump out of my seat (a couple of times)... big drawback is no multiplayer... at all.
NOFL2 is very good.
Serious Sam is good mindless carnage.

HAve to Back Kyo. SS2 was one of the most unique and challenging games I ever played. Great Atmosphere and story too.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

I just got a hold of a game that isn't out yet called Delta Force: Black Hawk Down which is a quasi realistic first person shooter based on the Somali conflict. It's really fucking fun if you are in army stuff. I just played the first mission and I had a blast. You start the mission as part of a group of Humvees set out to back up a convoy of UN trucks filled with food that has broken down and is being attacked by Somali geurillas. You are sitting in the turret operating the mounted .50 calibre machine gun while you race there killing off attacking soldiers and technicals (pickups with mounted machine guns). Everything blows up really nicely. I made some screenshots but I am linking them because they are huge. Ignore the shitty jpeg compression. Once you arrive you fight off a little more and then go on foot to take out a small encampment of bad guys, and then a black hawk lands to pick you up. Then the fun really starts when you take control of one of those major gatling guns mounted on the blackhawks. The convoy is on the move now but still being attacked so the chopper pilot does 4 or 5 wide circles around the convoy while you spray fucking everything with your gatling gun.

The game also has some nice touches like the ability to mount your rifle on your shoulder and actually use the iron sights to aim more accurately (as opposed to the ubiquitous magic cross hairs in the middle of the screen).

One of my all time favorite games is Ghost Recon, very good multiplayer Coop as well as very immersive and replayable single player campaigns. It strives to be a "realistic" fps. You do have teammates, even in single player that you have some control over.. telling them where to go on the map and what rules of engagement to follow, etc. Its sort of a tactical FPS. Very fun.

I honestly think that RtCW is the best single player FPS to be released since like... half-life.Dregor Thule wrote:Got ahold of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Man, this things nice. Making me realize how much I suck at FPS's, haha. They aren't my usual thing. But I'm loving the feel of the game right now.

I've been playing that a lot lately - it's a BF42 mod and it's a ton of fun especially if you know the people you're playing with. I can't wait for the next patch!

Another bargain bin game you may want to give a try is Oni. Not everyone likes it, but if you liked the visuals and style of Shogo, you would probably really like this game as well. Its sort of a combination of a fighting game and a FPS.

Well, I've decided RtCW is too damned dark to play. My monitors at full brightness, in-game gamma is at full... it's just too dark to see wtf I'm doing in some places (and I dont mean parts of areas... like, all the damned catacombs level). Is there anything else I can do? I've always felt my monitor was a little darker than normal... I've checked the display settings in XP, can't find a gamma adjustment or anything.
