Donnie Darko
Psychological-suspense-thriller
Very good movie, starts out with a imaginary demonic rabbit predicting the apocolypse to the leading character. It has a sad, twisted story line with an unhappy (or happy) ending depending on your point of view.
An all around good movie. Teen angst is even done well. It's worth watching twice as you'll definately pick things up you missed the first time.

I bought the DVD for $9.99 at the mall. I must say that it was worth every penny. I really enjoyed the movie, but I feel they should've left the majority of the deleted scenes in the film because it would help to clarify some of the more obscure concepts.
One of things I like most about it was that everything wasn't spoon fed to the viewer like most Hollywood movies. It made you think. I could see many people not liking the film due to that very reason. ie: They just wanted to be entertained, not be handed a mind bender in the last 5 minutes of the movie.

Yeah, cant see this movie only once. Most of my friends seen it by now, and we still discuss it, great movie, since so much of it depends on how YOU view it.
Btw, if you like the movie, go to http://www.donniedarko.com and get throught the webpage, REALLY worth doing if you seen the movie.
Oh, and seeing Patrick Swayze in that role is brilliant, finally a role he is good at. Must have typecasted him for it

For Donnie Darko fans, here's the theme song from the movie:
Gary Jules - Mad World
Along the lines of what others have said on this thread, this movie can easily be a multiple view experience to catch extra things. Extended scenes on DVD help.

I'm assuming they got the actors back and filmed new footage? Over 2 hours seems like a bit too much to just be deleted scenes, not to mention the length of time that has passed since Donnie Darko first came out. Anyways, I'm looking forward to it.Hesten wrote:And for all you Donnie Darko fans, get ready for Donnie Darko - The Directors Cut, release day 15/2.
Oh, and who need extra materials, when the DC version runs a whopping 253 min
Do unto others what has been done to you.
No clue how they did it, know from the normal DVD that quite a lot was cut out, its like what, 20 deleted scenes?Drinsic Darkwood wrote:I'm assuming they got the actors back and filmed new footage? The extended footage on the actual movie is only 20 minutes
The extra "additional footage" is just the dvd extras, which I think absolutely blow. I'll be watching the extended DVD soon and let you know if it was worth paying for the movie again. I have a feeling it will only be worth it to diehard fans...

That 20 minutes of footage is stretched pretty thin. There are some much needed explainations added at various points, but overall I don't think most people would notice a difference if they saw the original a couple years ago and then watch the extended edition now. It just wasn't anything memorable, and nothing that a true Donnie Darkko fan didn't already know. In short, this Director's Cut was kinda preaching to the choir.
Still, it was enjoyable and did add to the film, although ever so slightly. This is for the fanbois only, all others need not apply.

*Finally* saw this. Great movie, really piqued my curiosity. Looked through the site a bit that Hesten linked, very bizarre site, very cool.. but this massive headache I have leaves me with little patience to go through all of it
It's funny.. the Director's Cut is what, 3 hours? It sure as hell didn't feel like it. Very enthralling. Frank will haunt my dreams.
Saw this because of Miir's suggestion in my "Need Movie Suggestions" thread.
I only have one thing to say about it.
Miir, thank you.
This is one of my new favorite movies.
