Best FPS ever?
I'm curious what everyone thinks the best FPS is. I mostly want to know this because I love the genre and I don't want to miss a game that's worth playing. Post your faves. Multiplayer or Single, as long as they're good.
1. Counterstrike - If people aren't cheating, this can be one of the most fun games ever.
2. Return to Castle Wolfenstein - If they hadn't put all the paranormal bullshit in this game, this would be my number one.
3. Half-Life - You had to love the enemy UI in this game.
4. Unreal Tournament 2003 - The graphics are simply incredible.
5. Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II
Honorable Mention to:
Wolfenstein 3d - The beginning of a Genre
Doom - The next step
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast

Name the time, name the place, Lina.
A few words of commentary:
For whatever reason, I could never get in to Deus Ex. I tried it several times.
I liked Medal of Honor a lot, but I thought the movement and graphics were superior in RtCW. I also hated the ending and the last several missions.
When I purchased Tribes 2, getting the approrpriate patches, and the game itself was just too annoying for me to pursue playing. I do regret not playing it.
No One Lives Forever 1 and 2 were both spectacular, spectacular games with the best stories I've seen. I'm not sure why, but I just didn't feel they belonged on this list.
I'd also like to give a shout out to the game Thief - The Dark Project. I never played the sequel, but the original was a blast to play.

Quake I think is my all time favorite, mostly because it's the one that made every other game come into creation. BF1942 is great also, as is Half-Life/CS .. I just never got into CS a whole lot for some reason. UT2003 is fun too. =)

Recent ones I have played.
Battlefield 1942
America's Army
America's Army is free, and quite a bit of fun. go to http://www.americasarmy.com to find download the client.

Rainbow 6 is tops on my list. Used to run a clan for that, really made people cry. Though I gave it up after seeing some guy in a match camp for over an hour in the same spot. The other guy ended up going to make dinner and came back and ate it and the guy camping never moved at all. It was pretty funny.
I also love playing AA, but mainly because it's free, and you can really drive people nuts if you tell them you're an Iraqi soldier using this game for training, heh.

Counter-Strike (without h4x)
Tribes 2
eventually Planteside?

I got laid less when i used a Pentium. I talk about my AMD and how it has 8 data channels instead of 6 and why AMD's QuantiSpeed Architecture easily out-performs Intel's Hyperthreading technology. Suffice to say that it gets the chicks all hot and flustered...
Catacombs 3d came before wolfenstein 3d
Single Player:
Deus Ex... started a bit slow but it got me hooked in no time
Jedi Outcast - Really fun trying to use nothing but your lightsaber (once you get it)
Half-life - Almost my number 2, but it didnt have a lightsaber!
Outlaws (anyone remember this?)
Multiplayer:
Rainbow 6 / Eagle Watch
Jedi Knight - Dark forces II
Doom, Cooperative
Drawing a blank, I'm sure I'll be editing this...

Actually several of my clan members said it was worse, the graphics were bad and i guess the insta gib which i play was not as good (fall down for death no actual graphics no bullet holes things of that nature) so i never bought it..Although i have a friend burning me a copy so im gonna give it a shot anywayKaelina wrote:Unreal Tournament 2003 is a lot better than UT, if you haven't played it yet Taly. =)
I want to cast...........MAGIC MISSLE!
Single player: Half-Life or No One Lives Forever 2. Both of those kept me up until 5 or 6 in the morning because I just couldn't stop playing them.
Multiplayer: Quake 3 Arena, because, in my opinion, no other game takes the amount of pure reflex, knowledge of the game, and constant awareness of your surroundings that Q3 does. I'm always blown away whenever I watch demos of the top players like zero4 etc..., their reflexes, reaction time and aim are just godly and it results in matchups that I really haven't seen in other games. That's what's kept it fun for me for so long.
Doom2 would be a close second based purely on how crazy it was. 4-way games on doom2 map 1 were more chaotic than many 20+ player matches in games these days. Spawn, get a rocket in the face, die. Spawn, turn a corner, rocket in the face again, die. Spawn, die to a BFG. Spawn, die to the cone radius blast of the same BFG shot. I always get nostalgic when I think of doom2. Going over to my friend's place where he had 4 computers set up and playing until 6 or 7am, then his father, who was as into doom as we were, would drive us all home. Or staying up all night during highschool playing on the montreal DWANGO server. Ahhhhh, good times... I can't believe that was over 8 years ago.

Because Quake2 and 3 sucks? ^^ Well, 3 is decent, 2 is just gay =(.Brittney wrote:How can you make a best fps thread and not even mention Quake 2 or 3?!?!
Counter-strike is the most fun multiplayer FPS as long as you DON'T play on public servers. Get some friends together and play 5on5 =)
