PC-Based Guitar Pre-amp?

Post by Canelek »

Howdy,

Thinking of buying a M-Audio Fast Track USB 2 Computer Audio Interface or the like for input/recording.

What I would like to do is NOT spend a whole lot of cash, so I figured there had to be a decent preamp software setup that had a decent allotment of effects such as overdrive/distortion, delay, chorus, flange, compression, etc...

Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing? Obviously I do not have a rack-mount (or otherwise) preamp, so it would be cool to be able to run everything via my PC.

Thanks!

Was looking for something along those lines too, be interested to see how you make out.

I like the features of that one, whoever designed that enclosure could use a boot to the groin though.

Thinking or ordering this one:

Maybe a bit overkill, but I think I will give Sonar X1 a try, for the software end.

Also going to compare your links to the one I posted. Would like to keep it cheap without sounding awful. :)

Leaning towards the M-Audio Fast Track Pro at this point. What I am trying to figure out is:

Since the audio interface is a sound card and seems to have monitor outputs for RCA and S/PDIF.

My computer speakers are Logi Z-5500 (AWESOME).

On the Logitech controller (wired between sub and sound card), there are inputs for optical and coax.

Based on this, is there some sort of cable that goes RCA (red/white) to Coax? And would that work? I really want to play directly through my Z-5500 system (real-time and post).

Or would that be S/PDIF -> Coax? Wait, isn't digital coax S/PDIF by definition? I am no AV specialist...or even doodler

Ended up purchasing M-Audio Fast Track Pro. Still trying to figure out how to get the inputs/outputs all set up correctly. I was hoping to run a S/PDIF digital coaxial cable between the Fast Track (S/PDIF Out, coax) and Logitech Z-5500 console (S/PDIF In, coax). Can't seem to hear shit when I run my guitar into the Fast Track 1/4" input. I think my issue is with the sound properties in Win7 (64-bit). I must have something not configured correctly.

If I ever get this shit working, I'll give my opinion...heh
