Carriers (2009)

Post by Fairweather Pure »

This is a pandemic film. A virus has gone crazy and killed pretty much everyone. If you get coughed on, you're fucking dead. It's just a matter of time. During that time, you are extremely contagious and people treat you like a leper (rightfully so!). We start our movie off with an SUV full of 20 somethings driving through the desert trying to come to terms with what is happening around them as they journey to an isolated beach where they believe they will be safe from the pandemic that is currently ravaging humanity. Judging from the opening scene you would think this was a light hearted road trip movie full of atractive people. You wouldn't be further from the truth (except for the attractive people).

This movie stars Chris Pine from the Star Trek reboot. He did a great job in this movie. Hell, every actor did a great job in this movie. I was expecting less than nothing, yet this film delivered on every aspect that I consider important in films of this nature. The narrative was tight. The characters were smart. The situations were unique. The decisions that had to be made at various points in the movie were heart wrenching and really, really made you think. The movie firmly held my attention from start to finish. When it was over, it left me thinking "what would I have done in that situation?".

It's a crime that movies like this get lost in the cracks. It's better than most genre films that get much more attention.

9/10 It's currently streaming on Netflix. I watched ti there first, then found it at Big Lots for 3$ a week later. I think zombie fans should all give it a shot. Even though it's not a zombie movie, the themes are the same and delt with very well.

The acting was really good, I'll agree there. I just thought the story was a bit too dreary and plodding for my taste.

It was worth a watch though!

Come to think of it, I really am having a hard time finding a likable character aside from the dude with the sick daughter (excellent actor (OZ, Thin Red Line, etc.))

I remember reading reviews on this and the one thing they all seemed to have in common was the that it was a downer. So, I'm not surprised to see you mention that. I thought it ended on an optimistic note myself!

The situation with dude and his little girl really tore me up. Everything about that part of the movie had a big impact on me. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, I know what I would've done if I were in that situation with my daughters...

I'm glad to see people's follow up opinions!
