Centurion

Post by Canelek »

Neil Marshall's(The Descent, Dog Soldiers, Doomsday) new film, Centurion, is about Rome's pull out from northern Brittain due to the guerrilla tactics of the Picts. As a last-ditch effort, the famed 9th Legion of Rome is charged with killing the Pict king and hopefully allowing Rome to finish conquering the region.

One man is tasked with bringing the survivors back home.

This film should have had another 30 minutes tacked on because I thought it was fucking brilliant and just needed a touch more fleshing out. at 90 minutes though, it does a fantastic job--I just wanted more because it was beautifully shot and I really enjoyed the characters, apart from one that I couldn't quite figure out. Maybe I give a more glowing review because I am a huge fan of Marshall's work, but it is worth checking out!

8.5/10 (would have been more but for one plot hole that I could not really understand)

Comcast has it OnDemand right now. It must be in limited theatrical release, or had been recently.

Michael Fassbender (300, Inglorious Basterds) was excellent in the lead role!

DVD release next Tuesday (11/2). Looking forward to watching it again, and again. Again, it was surprising that this film didn't get much play theatrically. Marshall is once again on top of his game. I guess Hollywood was too busy crapping out Look Who's Talking 9 or someshit.

Caught this streaming through Netflix over the weekend. Definitely agree that it should have had more/better publicity. I had not heard of it until this thread started.

I also caught this movie through Netflix about a week or so ago.

While, historically speaking, I don't think it's that accurate and the action is a tad over the top, it's entertaining as a pure adventure/action movie. Great stuff for those that like survivalist themes in cold weather!
