Here's their original post, just incase people are curious as to how it works.
A little more info on the Sears Billion Points Contest Fen and I have entered.
Yes, technically we would win 1M worth of Sears merchendise if we won the contest, in reality, 1/4 of that money is donated in our name to one of Sears' charities, we chose St. Jude's Children's Hospital and 1/4 is donated in our name to a charity of our choice, we chose the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in order to help find a cure for breast cancer because several members of my family are breast cancer survivors, including both of my grandmothers and my mother. Out of the 1/2M left, 1/3 of that is taken for taxes, what is left we can use on any Sears products or services.
So, what would Fen and Zeph do with all of that money? As many of you know, we purchased our first home nearly a year ago and there are several things that we'd really like to do around the house, but just can't afford. This includes:
1. Replacing our broken, flimsy garage doors so that they work and we feel safe.
2. Install air conditioning...I don't want to go through another 90-105 degree summer without air conditioning ever again!
3. Get a serious water filtration system for the house. We're on well water which is apparently very corrosive for our pipes and appliances.
4. Replace all sinks, toilets and showers in the house, as well as our dishwasher due to the damage they've sustained for many years due to said corrosive water.
5. Replace a few appliances we have such as the refrigerator, microwave and yes, toaster-oven, although all 3 work, they're not going to last much longer, especially the microwave, it sparks any time you try to pop popcorn...
6. Replace some broken floor tiles and damaged carpeting left by the previous owners.
7. Repaint some damaged areas on the walls left by the previous owners.
8. Buy random stuff you just need for owning a house, like a power washer, a big ladder so you can clean the gutters, yard equipment, etc.
In addition to getting some or hopefully all of this stuff done for our own home, we'd also really like to help out our families a bit as a "thank you" for all of their support and help over the years. For my parents, I would like to buy them some new cooking equipment because they both love to cook and bake, and they're using really old equipment. My mom just replaced her 36 year old mixer because it finally died. She's been wanting to buy a bunch of new kitchen gadgets for years, but just hasn't been able to afford it. For Jon's mom and step-dad, we'd like to buy them a new washer and dryer because we know that their set is very old and isn't working very well any more, plus I'm sure they'd love something that's a bit more eco-friendly. For Jon's dad and step-mom they're actually in the process of redoing their master bathroom, and we'd like to just help the buy a few things that they'd like for the bathroom, but wouldn't be able to afford on their own.
