Xbox live profile points

I finally got a gold membership to xbox live and I had to create a new provfile in order to do it. Is there a way to flag my non-online profile as an live profile? While I don't have that many points, it would stink if I lost all of my previously earned points and saves to go online because I can't flag my old profile as a live profile.

Pretty sure if you are logged into your local account you can turn it into a live account, but if you have already added the gold to a different account I think you are boned.

Ran into the problem helping my sister set up her Live account, but I can't remember if we ever got it to work.

Yeah, I think I'm screwed here. It's not as if I had a ton of points to begin with but it would be nice to have all of my forza 3 and gears of war 2 achievements.
