E3 2010

Post by Aslanna »

First!

Anyway, not sure it should really be in Consoles forum but that's where 2009 was. Post any pre-event rumors or speculation here. I'm thinking the 360 Slim will be announced. de Blob 2 for the Wii (yay!) I heard also. Sony.. What could they have.. Nothing! Already announced the Move thingie and 3D support.

According to Joystiq's sources, Sony is set to reveal a premium tier of the PlayStation Network service, labeled PSN+, during its 2010 E3 media briefing. Unlike Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold service, PSN+ will focus on giving paid subscribers additional bonuses without limiting online multiplayer between paying and nonpaying users.

Many of the features included in the premium service mimic those featured in a supposed survey released late last year. Sources tell us that subscribers will have access to a rotating list of PSP Minis and PSone Classics, exclusive in-game DLC, discounts to the PlayStation Store and "first hour" demo access to full retail titles. Following the first hour of gameplay, players will have the ability to purchase the full title; however, demo access will only be available once the entire title has been downloaded.

As PSN+ subscribers, gamers will also receive protection for their consoles with the recently announced PlayStation Protection Plan, as well as exclusive access to the long-awaited cross-game voice chat. Additional features are said to be in the works following the launch of PSN+, including the previously rumored cloud-based saving system.

Joystiq has been informed that PSN+ subscribers will also have the ability to enable an auto-patching feature, which will detect, download and install updates for recently played PS3 titles on the system.

Pricing and a release for the PSN+ service is unknown, though one source speculates PSN+ may cost $9.99 per month. When contacted, a Sony representative said the company does not "comment on rumors or speculation."
Might be some benefits there... 1 hour demo on any game sounds nice. But $10 a month.. Seriously? Yeah yeah... Just a rumor at this point. I guess we'll see soon enough.

I think E3 is going to be crazy this year. Oddly, out of everything available I'm most looking forward to the full reveal on the Warhammer 40k MMORPG. That's been in development for years and the only leaks/press has been about 5 pieces of concept art!

The big boys will come out strong. I'm happy to see MS is dedicating the previous day stricktly for Natal. Hopefully this means it won't dominate the actual show in any way. I also hope Sony doesn't do anything but Move games. Ugh.

As far as the Sony premium service goes, I think there is truth to the rumors, but the details and price have got to be off. Then again, it is Sony so the insulting price kind of makes the rumor more believable. I sure won't be buying it!

The Blur commercial is funny, but it loses it's edge when you realize Mario Kart will sell more in it's 3rd year than Blur will sell in it's lifetime.

Besides, it could be making fun of Modnation Racers, not Mario Kart!

As far as Playstaion Move...

...they need to stfu already. It's been done. They are not being innovative in the slightest. Get over it already. Admit it is a shameless ripoff and "move" on. (hah! clever!)

Personally I think Natal is even more pointless than Wiimote and Move. At least with those controllers you're holding something, If anything the Kevin Butler thing was making more fun of Natal than Nintendo: "...its also got what we in the future call buttons which turn out to be pretty important". Yeah...

If you want to play a normal shooter, the 360 controller is the best of the three consoles...if you want to try something new, the Natal option will be the most unique experience. 360, as usual, wins this with great original design for its controller (see PS3's fucking horrific fiasco six axis rumbless craptastic, worst ever convexed triggered controller). I'd place my money on Microsoft coming through with the best new controllers, considering they've been golden in everything they've done this console generation. (save for the RRoD)

I heard the MSRP for the 'Natal' camera is going to be $150.
That's hillarious.

A ridiculous price point like that is just going to put the 360 into an even bigger hole.
It's already the worst selling console everywhere in the world except NA and the PS3 is trending to overtake it in sales in Q2 2011... keep in mind, the 360 had a 12 month head start.

Winnow wrote:I'd place my money on Microsoft coming through with the best new controllers, considering they've been golden in everything they've done this console generation. (save for the RRoD)
I think Natal is going to be a bust just like the decision to go with HD-DVD and no HDMI support.

It's looking like another year of sequels (shocking!). There have already been a lot of Sony leaks, but I'm hoping they still have a surprise or two left up thier sleeve for E3. Not a lot of early leaks from Microsoft's side, but that could be both good and bad. Both sides better push games over waggle!

Games we know about:

Killzone 3
Infamous 2
Little Big Planet 2
Dues Ex 3
Fable 3
Dead Space 2
Gears of War 3
Zelda 28 (or whatever)
Fear 3
Crackdown 2
Metal of Honor
Crysis 2
Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2
Rage
Brink
Civ 5
CoD Black Ops
Star Wars Force Unleashed 2
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Fallout New Vegas
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Max Payne 3
Castlevania Lord of Shadow
Portal 2
Another Batman AA
Another XCOM

ANd a whole lot more sequels...

Most of those sequels I'm pretty indifferent about. The new Batman AA and perhaps Assassin's Creed 3 are about the only ones that catch my interest on first glance. Black Ops could be decent but the single player will probably be too short. I know everyone loves to hate on Treyarch because of Call of Duty 3 but I thought World at War turned out pretty well.

Maybe. It's hard to tell based on that. Basically a bunch of cutscenes pasted into a trailer with very little gameplay shown.

You know what's really sad? Those were off the top of my head :(

I can think of a couple more...

Bulletstorm
Enslaved (linked by Winnow, looks good to me so far but need to see more)
Dead Rising 2
Warhammer 40k MMORPG
Space Marine
Mafia 2
A bunch of sports games (NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, ect)
Ninety Nine Nights 2
Another Lego Game (Harry Potter and maybe another one?)
Rock Band 3
That Star War MMO
Gran Turismo 5
Another SOCOM

PLUS! There will be games for PSN and XBL, I'm sure.

Notice there isn't a single waggle game up there so you can count on those too.

This is the biggest E3 yet IMO.

Indeed. I got it eventually (thanks platinum trophy!) but I thought it was a bit lame and not really in line with the general 'flow' (for lack of a better term) of the game up to that point.

Rumor is a new 360 to be announced. With built in Wi-Fi (finally). Depending on price that's one less thing for the Sony fanboys to whine about. What's left other than having to pay for Live Gold?

And Natal apparently renamed to Kinect. I'm not really sure which one I like less.

Among games in the works:

•Kinectimals lets you train and play with 20 different virtual cats, including a lion, cheetah and tiger.

•Joyride, a racing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary steering wheel — pull your hands toward you and push back out for an acceleration boost — and their bodies to execute jumps and tricks.

•Kinect Sports has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header.

•Kinect Adventures includes a river-raft time trial and obstacle course, playable by up to four players. On the raft, playing as a duo, you and a partner must lean one way or another to steer. Jumping helps the raft reach special areas for extra points.

•Dance Central, in development by MTV Games, brings a So You Think You Can Dance experience home.

•Star Wars characters and iconic Disney favorites will be featured in separate new games being developed at Microsoft in conjunction with LucasArts and Disney.
Jesus. Waggle tech games universally suck.

It's wait till tomorrow before assuming anything about the pricing. Microsoft have said nothing about it yet.

I'm still waiting to see how Natal/Kinect is going to be so innovative or revolutionary.
The games look pretty much identical to stuff that's been available on the Wii for years.
Driving with an imaginary steering wheel? Running on the spot? Jumping? Waving your arms around? Dancing?
Kinectimals? That exact 'game' was released on the PS3 last year under the name of Eye Pet.

How the fuck is that innovative?

Oh and the 'teaser' for the Kinect Star Wars game was nothing short of embarrasing.

Nobody is trying to hype Move as the next big thing. It's just a motion control device.
At least Sony's 'Kevin Butler' commercials are amusing.

What about it is so great? I was skeptical at first but after hearing the play by play from friends on E3 (rip off of wii sports, etc) I don't see myself footing the absurd amount of money I'm sure it will cost.

I don't even use my xbox for Netflix/etc anymore (that's what the PC is for), so my original idea of Kinect/wtfever being cool to use to navigate the menus is kinda moot.

I just don't see how you can justify spending more than like 50 dollars on this shit to play Wii Sports or Wii Fit on the xbox. And it's a contradiction to say that you can pass up on those but it will be cool for new full featured titles.. What full featured game could really be greatly enhanced by the motion control? FPS games will still need the controller for most of the controls, etc.

I just don't get the appeal. So far anything I've heard has been so underwhelming I could almost laugh. ESPN ON DEMAND ON THE XBOX YAY! Don't even get me started on Fable 3. There will probably be indy games that like no one buys that will be better than that game.

I'm really interested in the dash navigation with it as well as some of the games they showed. I thought the tech is really impressive and am really looking forward to see it in action.

I can really see my wife and kids enjoying a lot of the stuff that is coming out with this. (my daughter would LOVE Kinectimals.)

Wasn't much for the hardcore gamer here outside the first 30 minutes but overall I thought it was a good show.

It pains me to say this shit, but I wish I could trade my 360 games in for the PS3 versions. My 360 is so loud that it has to break any time now, and I am going to have a really hard time justifying spending money on a THIRD one. I wouldn't even consider it but I have over 90 games for it, we'll see.

Has there been any tally of failure rates since the Jasper chipset was put in place? I'm sure some still break but I doubt it's anything like it was. I haven't really heard anything about it at all in awhile now.

I have 2 360s, one I bought this year and one shortly after the initial release, and I haven't ever had problems with either of them.

I bought an arcade build in Jan 2010. The thing is whisper quiet (slightly louder when the disk is spinning but mitigated by HDD install) and it hasn't even frozen up, let along crashed.

On both my 360's, I've yet to experience the RROD or the E74. (My first one has gone back twice though. Once for a failing disk drive and the 2nd time the HDD controller was failing.)
