Metro 2033

Post by Fairweather Pure »

This is a surprisingly good game. The atmosphere is a combination of Fallout 3 and Resident Evil. The single player story, graphics (smoke effects are great), and gunplay remind me of playing a Modern Warefare game only you're fighting monsters. So far the game has been broken up by a lot of flashbacks and in-game cutscenes but the action I have seen has been very satisfying and the "horror" aspect has been pulled of very well. The first hour of the single player has laid out an exceptional world with a cool backstory. The weapons have a nice feel, but the enemies require lots of shots to put them down, so makes everything seem a bit underpowered. Well, with the exception of the double barreled shotgun!

The story takes place in Russia so many decades after nuclear war has killed off the majority of the world and people now live underground in the subway system. Society has broken up into groups and clans that kind of fend for themselves and occassionally make alliances to trade and help each other out. But for the most part, each group goes it alone. Your settlements are frequently attacked by mutants, but a new, darker, smarter, and more powerful mutant has shown up and you have ventured out of your shelter to learn more.

for 30$, I'm impressed by the game so far!

My experience was cut chort after about 20 minutes due to remembering I needed to clean and mop my kitchen.

I like what I see so far! Solid sound and the graphics are pretty slick. I just hope they don't get too silly with the air filters--micromanagement is not my favorite thing--but it doesn't seem like an issue yet.

Definately a good way to burn $30.

I got to the second train station, then deleted the game, had absolutely no fun, or interesting things happen, in that time. I like shooters with a good story, or at the very least, a good interesting setting, and i had hoped for that after the Stalker games, but this was just boring to me.

I threw this in for a bit last night. The game is all about the atmosphere, and it knocks that out of the ball park. Man, it has some annoying and brutal checkpoint saves though.

I hear it can push a PC pretty hard, but if you the hardware to run it at max settings, it's one of the best looking games out there.
