Looks like.. Halo!

I dunno.. I know a lot of people getting excited about this but I've seen nothing that doesn't look like the same old shit. I like Halo and the multiplayer is fun, but the people that play it obsessively wreck it for me. It's entirely possible I'll skip this one all together.

That could describe almost any sequel.. Final Fantasy 13 for example.

I would argue that most games even in a sequel change more than the Halo games.. However, people seem to think Halo Reacharound is some crazy cool totally different halo experience. Clearly it isn't.

I never really got into Halo. Then again, the last time I was stoked on a death match sort of FPS game was Rainbow 6, 13 years or so ago.

That was a pretty rad game! Halo is "pretty", but not ultimately for me.

With me it was Tribes... that was um... like 12 years ago.
Everquest put an end to that.

Tribes was fun!

After being pestered by my friends for the last two months I finally decided I'd buy this game. I generally like the campaigns in the Halo games, it's just once I start playing the multiplayer I begin losing interest quick.

All the Halo multiplayers have sucked IMO. Just something about them that just isn't right.

I miss the beta days of Planetside....where they actually had it right and then kind of screwed things up later. I may re-activate that for a month or so just for giggles.

I've played Halo 3 online a few times with work friends recently, and I think the numbers said like 100,00+ people were online each time, so I'd say it's not doing too bad.

I've been playing a lot of CoD:W@W and the numbers are around 35k on average. They go up a bit on the weekends, but no where near 100k. Has anyone played MW2 lately for a number comparison?

Meanwhile, Transformers WFC had less than 1k online last I checked. Too bad since the multiplayer is a lot of fun!

I might throw some games in later today just to get a feel.

Both games will do phenomenally well. I suspect that the the PS3 version of Black Ops will outsell the 360 version maginally because a lot of 360 players will be playing teh Haloz.

Me, I'll be skipping both and playing Fable 3 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Probably New Vegas as well. Hell I might do New Vegas on the PS3 to mix things up (unless Bethesda put in a way to import your character from Fallout 3).

I'll say that cod will still sell at least twice as much on 360. MW2 outsold the PS3 version by so much last year that I cannot see the trend reversing at all. Although, Madden sales sure caught up this year. However, overall Madden sales had a pretty big drop.

Even though AC2 was one of my favorite games ever, I'm skipping day 1 for the same reason I'm passing on Fallout new Vegas: it's too soon for me to play a sequel. Btw, no character importing as it's an entirely new story/location.

Also, when talking about online numbers with a friend, he wisely pointed out that school is back in session.

COD: WAW sold sold 50% more on 360 than PS3
Modern Warfare 2 sold 30% more on 360 than PS3

Played the first 2 campaign missions last night, it was fuckin sexy.

The battle rifle and the pistol are both actually useful weapons now, which is awesome. More to come as I actually spend some time with the game, but there are a lot of noticeable improvements; visually, gameplay wise and design wise with the weapons, etc.

Hype can be a tricky beast to tame! It's only something to be ashamed of if the game ends up sucking and hype was the only thing that got you to buy it at full price. I'll admit the last time that happened to me was FF13. I feel the hype rising for Dead Rising 2 and Fallout New Vegas, but dammit I'm trying to resist!

Case Zero is cheap and has a nice amount of content. All of your experience and such carry over to the full game. If you want a taste of the game, it's a safe bet. I know it really makes me want the full game even more!

One other downside for me personally is that Dead Rising is coming out the exact same day as the new Borderlands DLC. I know I will be playing that for a few weeks....and then the other games I really want will be hitting the shelves.

On a Gearbox related note, I am now officially on the Duke Nukem Forever watch now that they have purchased the franchise.

Guns in DR2 (at least in Case Zero) are much more friendly to use than they were in DR1. MUCH better.

There's also going to be an xbox 360 exclusive Case West that serves as an epilogue to DR2 and features Chuck Greene and Frank West. He's covered wars, y'know?

BTW pay attention to the Spotlight section on Live. Some people are getting an offer for 12 months of Live Gold for $30. It was random for me so you might have to log in and out a couple times. If it still doesn't show up that means MS doesn't like you.

And if you have one of the new 4GB 360s with no HDD don't bother trying to online co-op!

The single player campaign has been nothing short of amazing so far. Every chapter has ended with a real page turner. The events just get bigger and bigger.

I never even played Halo before Halo 3. I thought it was decent and fun. ODST was kind of a disappointment to me. Halo Wars is still probably the best console RTS out there. I didn't have huge expectations for Reach, so I'm kind of amazed the game is so good. So far, I think this is one of the best FPS games of this generation. That is not a statement I ever imagined I would type about Halo.
