Battlefield Bad Company 2

Post by Animalor »

I'm getting it for the PS3 this time around. Anyone else picking it up?

I traded in 13 games today (8 PS3, 5 360) today and EBGames was running trade 3 get it free for both BFBC2 and Final Fantasy 13. 6 of the lower value games (between 8 and 15$) got their value upped because of this trade. Walked out with 2 fully paid pre-orders and 165$ on my edge card.

Was Shadowrun the only game that you could play with people on the xbox through Games for Windows? I would grab this one on the PC just to have a newer shooter on the pc, but only if I could play with friend on the xbox.

Sadly no, I don't thing there have been and cross-platform shooters since Shadowrun.

Had a ton of fun times playing that one.

Just FYI since I don't see it mentioned.. pre-ordering gets you day 1 DLC ala Mass Effect 2 and gets you the "Limited Edition" for the same price.

Should you not care about playing this online or are adventurous enough, do a search for bfbc2-ccclx. It was leaked/released today.

Dr. Pepper is doing an EA promotion right now. Every cap gives you points that can be used on the EA site to buy/unlock items for various DLC for EA games, including BFBC2 and ME2.

Here are some codes:

http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hel ... -DLC-Codes

Some details:
In Spore, a dozen Cyborg-themed body parts – such as eyes, heads and arms – can be redeemed and used in the Spore Creature Creator. These parts allow players to mix robot and organic creature body parts to design their own Cyborg creatures. The exclusive Cyborg parts will be usable by all owners of the Spore PC game and anyone who downloads the free Spore Creature Creator Trial Edition from the Spore.com website.
In Mass Effect 2 (shipping January 26th for the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system, PC), a shooter RPG from EA’s award-winning BioWare™ division, there are three unique pieces of armor: two helmets and a visor. The game was recently named by The New York Times as one of 2010’s most anticipated games.
In Battlefield Heroes, there are four sets of unique character clothing, and consumers get a pair of outfits per download, one for each side.
In Battlefield: Bad Company 2 four kit upgrades allow you to become a unique Special Activities soldier, with new camouflage and a modified weapon. Kit upgrades also contain new awards and an additional achievement.

I realize this is one of those 'meant for multiplayer with a single player run through tossed in' games, but after about 5-6 hours of playing I have to say that I'm disappointed in the graphics but enjoying it more than any of the COD games lately. I'm constantly annoyed at the uh.. I don't know the proper term, but where it looks like the texture tiles don't match up properly and there's that bright white line.. there's a *lot* of that. The mix so far of snow to jungle and such has been ok and distributed pretty evenly (which is good because snow gets old fast). One of the dialog lines made me bust out laughing.. there's this spot where something needs done and one of your crew says you should do it yourself because the commanding officer type would only send in some special ops with some pussy ass heartbeat sensors on their guns - clearly a jab at MW2.

The multiplayer demo everyone has probably played along with the video posted above should give you an idea of how much more involved MP seems to be than MW2, and the single player so far is better as well imo. You're able to more freely roam around and choose the path you want to take to get where you're going. (Which you'll need to do in order to get the extra points and such anyway)

I'm glad I pre-ordered it and will finish up whatever I haven't done by then with that copy and then be heading to Live to see how it goes. If you've got a flashed 360, by all means snag it and start playing. It's worth the download and burn imo.

Turns out, at Best Buy at least, that there's no difference in the pre-order copy and the copy that's on the shelves. The VIP code you receive does expire April 1 however, so I guess as long as the SE copies last till then you're good.

Because they announce games YEARS before they release them.

It's like they intentionally delay releasing shit just to build hype.

True, but it comes out and it's a great, finished product. In a market where rushing shit out to make as much money as fast as possible is wrecking or at the very least stunting the games we play, I'll gladly take the Blizzard way.

Back on topic: game is getting good feedback. I'll have to pick it up eventually fo sho.

Which explains why they are constantly fucking with the core mechanics of the game?

Here's how I see the 'Blizzard Way'...
Don't release new content but fuck with game balance and classes until players start growing restless. Then announce an expansion/sequel and let the hype build for 12-36 months... when the hype shows the first sign of falling off, release it!

I don't disagree that they make quality games, but I'm just not a fan of their development cycles.

To you first quote: No, they are fucking with the core mechanics of the game constantly to make the game as casual player-centric as they possibly can without making the games existence an insult to intelligent people around the globe. This is potentially still a down side depending on where you sit, but says nothing about the "quality" of their finished product. Last time I checked the WoW servers don't go down for a week and a half after a expansion comes out :)

To the second - I think this partly fits in with the first part. You could be partly right on your theory but I'll still take that over the rushed out garbage that a large portion of games are.

I am kinda curious though if that will multiply the amount of noob tubing that takes place. I want a entire FPS game to come out with no sniper rifles and no rocket launchers. That would own :)

Online play is definitely more challenging than MW2, but in a good way. Still sucks to be a lowly ranked "new" player.

One thing that disappoints me now that I think about it is that during the single player game, there's no point where you're practicing the activities that are so important in online play - and that make it so different from MW2. There's no point where you're using paddles to revive teammates, there's no dropping supplies, there's no marking enemies (like in online play), etc.. It would have been smart to include those in the game so that it wasn't completely foreign to everyone that logged on to a server and started out playing like MW2.

Going to do my best to give it more time, but at the moment I'm going to predict that BC2 online play is never going to reach MW2 status. It's simply not as player friendly. For example if you don't have a squad that works together and one of the other 3 is, you may as well just log off. You're (A) not going to get any worthwhile points to boost up your rankings or unlock stuff and you're (B) going to spend more time waiting to spawn than anything else. Plus, if people happen to log off in the middle of the match, you could be fucked with having only 2 or 3 (or none!) other people on your squad, making it that much more impossible to do well.

I definitely don't understand the 4 squads per death match game idea. Listening to people get pissed off on Live chat is kind of amusing. I understand there's a learning curve, but how many people are going to be willing to do it.. cooperation amongst strangers isn't easy to get. Especially when you've got 3 other people that want to be snipers and sit back doing nothing the entire game.

The one thing I did tonight that I usually never do is jump straight into MP without even touching the SP. Had an absolute blast playing the game and even managed to get into squads of people that played together and collaborated. Didn't manage to get to Level 1 yet however I did manage to unlock my med kit before having to log out.

Great great fun!

I was able to finally get into MP with some friends and when working together, the experience is much much better. The mode of online play where you're after targets (think MW2 demolition) is much better than deathmatch also. People tend to work together since there's a common goal - plus, it's not 4 squads against each other - it's 2 squads vs the other 2. I still don't agree with the 4 squad separation, but we'll have to see if they add free for all or 2vs2 type modes at some point. I managed to get up a level and ranked up my assault class so it doesn't take a whole clip into someone to kill them now. The amount of snipers is crazy though. And as much fun as sniping is in BC2, it's somewhat understandable.

Definitely play through the single player at some point, it's a really enjoyable game. (Play the last mission on the hardest setting (or go back and do so) for extra achievement points).

I really like what I've seen so far in this game. I've played 2 online matches and I just started the second mission on single player. It's a great game so far.

I'm on the 3rd chapter of SP and played 4-5 online matches last night. Had a great time

Quick note - on the PS3 at least the VIP coes are case sensitive and require the dashes to be entered to redeem the VIP stuff.

Last I read, the in-game Store section was still down and EA is working on fixing that. This means that any pre-order bonus can't be redeemed yet.

(their site is dog slow atm.)

360 version too, which took me ages to figure out, each time having to start over from scratch...

I finished the single player campaign. It wasn't bad but I think my favorite SP campaign game is probably Call of Duty 2 or even Modern warfare. I do like that you didn't have to replay the whole game just to earn the 'Hard' trophy/achievement.

The servers kept going down on Live last night, not sure what's up with that. As for the VIP code, I didn't have to use dashes but I did put it in all caps to start and didn't have any problems.

I'm not exactly clear on how to access the premium weapons you get in game. I heard about an M1 rifle for veterans, which I believe defines anyone that has more than 1 EA war game which I don't.

EA's servers took a dive once last night on the PS3 at approx. 9:30PM EST last night. The rest of the evening till 11:30 EST(when I logged off) was fine.

Playing PC version. As a novice FPS player, I'm completely disgusted by the multiplayer experience of this game. Trying for 10+ minutes to get into a game just to get kicked is retarded. Guess I'm not the kind of player that's wanted.

Yeah tried the MP for a bit. It's awesome dying 5 seconds after spawning. When it comes to FPSs I don't think multiplayer is really my sort of thing
