I think you sure are overreacting to other peoples reaction of a game you haven't played.

I think the only problem with the game here is peoples expectations leading them to be close minded. Just because you can't spend a bunch of time wandering around or leveling up to 99 just because you can, doesn't mean the game is bad. I honestly did those things in the past games, I did the level grind in 7 so that I could max out everything and beat all the optional bosses.

However, looking back I don't think those things made those games good, they were just a necessary thing per the genre and I didn't mind them. I won't miss towns, and having to talk to everyone in the town, likely skipping through the text with most of them anyhow. I won't miss not getting a achievement because there was a town where I missed one gem hiding in a pot somewhere. I won't miss being really excited to get the next piece in the compelling story only to realize that I'll have to grind levels for 5 hours before I can.

I think that if you go into this game with a open mind it will be a very enjoyable FF game.

It's true that I don't know whether or not I will like the game. Although based on what I know about the gameplay, it's easier to think of it as a really long movie.

It takes a remarkably bad RPG for me to think I wasted my time (I managed to enjoy FFXII despite being able to auto-script any encounter). What I am banking my anger on is that the complete departure from several elements that made the Final Fantasy series great is going to further sully the immersion that hasn't been great since FFIX.
