Battlefield 1943
This was released on Xbox Live today (PS3 tomorrow and PC in Sept).
Here is a link to the NeoGAF thread, which covers al the basics.

It is a complete and utter clusterfuck right now. EA is scrambeling to add more servers even as I type. There were totally unprepared for the high demand of the game. I have yet been able to actually play a game and I've been trying off and on for the past 4 hours. They are having problems with packet loss on Eruo serverstoo, which they are also working on.
Those that have gotten on say it's a lagfest and really not any fun atm.
I hope they get thier shit together, I was really looking forward to this release!

Re: Battlefield 1943
How could EA have been un-prepared for this type of demand on Xbox Live??
Seriously. Even mediocre shooters do well on the platform. All they needed to to was look at the launch numbers of Battlefield: Bad Company to get an idea and go from there.

WoW servers sucked at launch* and everyone loves WoW! Even with the crappy graphics.

Re: Battlefield 1943
I tried last night when I got home for a couple of hours and nothing. This morning, I wasn't getting on, but it was a different error message, so I considered that progress. I finally got in, and it's pretty goddamn fun. Absolutley worth 15$. I played about 4 games, then had some things I needed to do around the house.
It's BF 1942 wrapped in Bad Company physics with some other tweeks. Such a simple and fun game.

Re: Battlefield 1943
The community challange has been pretty interesting to watch. When there are 43 million kills, a new map is unlocked. The offical site has a system comparision of PS3 vs 360 for kills. Keep in mind that the 360 was released a full 24 hours before the PS3. Well, it was a completely fucking shitty launch, but that was because the servers were bursting at the seams. The current total is:
360: 37431484
vs
PS3: 19913752
I was pretty surprised at how well the PS3 has hung in there. I would've thought the 360 would be much higher.
You could also DL a Facebook app that tracked this.

Re: Battlefield 1943
Btw, I added many to that body count. Both in kills and deaths!
I've had some fantastic "video game momments" playing 1943.
I flanked a bunker and stabbed 4-5 guys in a row and took the flag.
I shot down the same fighter 5-6 times in a row from an anti-aircraft gun. The idiot would fly off the carrier in the same flight pattern every single time.
I shot down a plane with the 50 cal on my landing craft during initial deployment.
Headshots. Lots of them. One shot, one kill. I've had a guys run at me and shoot me 2-3 times in the body. I turn around and put a single bullet in his face and he's dead as shit. Always go for the head!
I suck at flying. I mean, really suck. The new map does nothing for me since it's all ariel combat.

Re: Battlefield 1943
I don't mean to be a dick, The Little Mermaid popped in my head at first when I read that, and I thought it was humorous.
I wonder if the fact that most of the starters on my high school football team would get drunk and watch Disney movies the night before football games contributed at all to our 1-8 record my senior season...

Re: Battlefield 1943
Picked this up last week and have been messin around with it a bit.
I absolutely suck at FPS games on consoles...
So I busted out my split-fish controller last night and my kills and scores tripled.
I started enjoying the game a lot more.
Overall, the game is not bad...
There's not much variety in maps.
Too many players don't seem to understand the concept of capture and control.
The vehicle combat is excellent.

Damn... I wish there was a split-fish for the 360. Score one for the PS3.

Re: Battlefield 1943
You could just plug in a normal keyboard/mouse to play FPS games on your 360...Fash wrote:Damn... I wish there was a split-fish for the 360. Score one for the PS3.
Oh wait, no you can't!
Score 2 for the PS3.

Re: Battlefield 1943
I still play way too much of this game. After I hit 100 games played, I'll have unlocked all the acheivements. Granted, they're pretty easy.
