Re: Year One
Yeah it was not my favorite movie. I like Cera, but except for a few laughs it was highly disappointing. The wife really was excited to see this. I wish we had seen Up or Haqngover instead. It should probably have been an R too since every single joke referenced sex. I am not a prude, but between the language and sex jokes, I am not sure PG13 was the right rating.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
Re: Year One
Agreed with Tyek.. it definitely should have been an adult movie. The sodomy jokes were rampant but never reached the level demanded of a good sodomy-based movie. Any scene involving the high priest was pretty awesome, Juno boy was good and annoying, Jack Black was Jack Black and the princess was the girl from House. Nudity was demanded along with bloodshed and tons of cursing. So much potential unfulfilled because of a narrow target audience.
Tobias saved this film from being not worth the money. Arrested Development fans will appreciate the replacement blue man as a brother-killing, backstabbing farmer / sodomite.
Worth seeing with stupid people or a large group. Bad date movie. Bad family film.

Re: Year One
I am now severely depressed because you brought up Arrested Development...a show that should have never ended.
The above has nothing to do with this movie...I didn't see it.

Re: Year One
Isn't Jack Black in this?
If so, why bother to watch it?
Filthy didn't like it either:

It is filled with comics who are either very impressed with themselves or happy believing that everyone else is impressed with them. So, Ramis, Black, Cross and Apatow sleepwalk through the movie, putting in the absolute minimum effort and showing off their flabby comic guts. The result is a hackneyed, third-grade potty humor bummer with little plot and even less visual appeal. They don't care that it sucks, that it could have been done better, or that it shouldn't have been made at all. This is all the effort they want to muster as they get older, more comfortable and let their careers die.

I think it was the opposite: instead of going for an adult audience, they tried to make it appeal to kids as well, and ended up failing both.Leonaerd wrote:So much potential unfulfilled because of a narrow target audience.

Love Jack Black.

I think we meant the same thing. I agree, at any rate.masteen wrote:I think it was the opposite: instead of going for an adult audience, they tried to make it appeal to kids as well, and ended up failing both.Leonaerd wrote:So much potential unfulfilled because of a narrow target audience.
