Drag Me to Hell

Post by Zamtuk »

Great horror movie. It is from Sam Raimi, who, of course, did the Evil Dead trilogy, and he is in top form here. This movie was pretty scary, had the humor, and definately had the gross out factor. It even had a throw back to Evil Dead with the blood splash! My biggest fear was that Apple guy douching up the movie, but he actually did ok. I would recommend seeing this either in the theater or in front of a kickass surround sound system, because the sound is really great in the movie.

There were three things that really bothered me, though.
[Show]
1. No Bruce Campbell

2. The scene where the gypsy attacked her/put a curse on her was a bit nonsensical. She works at what is seemingly a normal bank branch, yet she parks in some presumably underground parking structure, where everyone else including her later on park in front of the bank in a parking lot. It just seemed a tad unnecessary, but it is a minor gripe.

3. No Bruce Campbell.

I'm visiting my hometown right now and I'm planning to go see this with my old best friend from growing up. He used to make me watch the Evil Dead movies over and over... and over. I've always enjoyed them, but for him it is like a religious experience.

I'm really excited that this movie is coming out while I'm visiting my hometown and while I'm hanging out with him. His reactions will probably be as entertaining as the movie itself. :) Glad to hear mostly positive reviews so far.

I was very worried that this would just plain suck, and ruin the Raimi horror films and their histories.

Glad to hear its good though, it was the PG-13 rating, along with the eerily similar look to Steven King's "Thinner" that gave me the first gut wrench about this film not being good.

I was mainly worried by all the CGI blood in the trailer. I'll check it out on DVD.

To be honest, there is hardly any blood in this movie. The girl gets a nose bleeds which flies all over her boss Evil Dead style, and another guy gets bit on his hand. That's it. Now, gross out stuff like maggots, snot, spit, slobber, etc. is a whole other story. There are a lot of cringe-worthy scenes in it.

On a cool side note, it is only behind Up, and tied with Star Trek as the highest reviewed movie on metacritic.com of the year, so far.

Just saw it today, in a fairly empty theater, and had a great time. The movie is great, and got a lot of scary/disturbing scenes, and was just as fun hearing people laugh or comment on the scenes as seeing the movie.
Definitely one to buy on DVD.

Couldn't stand the female actress, but otherwise it was ok. Only thing you're really going to remember in a week is a gross kiss with a gypsy.
