Credit card bill
This bill looks promising, and is another small step in the right direction. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it passes intact:

It will be a big hit to the people who've made Biden a millionaire.
Pushing us back to the credit environment that existed in the early '80s would be painful for banks and consumers alike, but overall would help create a more sustainable economy.

Re: Credit card bill
That sounds like something that should be in a bill regarding credit cards. The two versions of the legislation in the Senate and the House of Representatives, which is due to vote again on Wednesday, need to be reconciled before being sent to the president.
They are very similar, correspondents say. However one possible stumbling block is a measure added to the Senate bill to allow people to carry loaded guns in national parks, which passed by 67 votes to 29.

I just dont' get it. I know it is politics as usual but wtf does carrying a gun have to do with credit cards? It really freaks me out that we hired people who just don't have common sense.

You could look at almost any bill and fill it in with whatever terms you wanted! It is like those Mad Libs books that would have you pick a certain number of adjectives, nouns, verbs, etc.!I just dont' get it. I know it is politics as usual but wtf does _______________ have to do with ____________? It really freaks me out that we hired people who just don't have common sense.

It is in there for the same reason all kinds of crazy shit gets tacked on. They wanted cross party support and knew the added votes would make it sail through.

You're not allowed to now as an overall policy? I've been in a lot of national parks and had never heard of this. Out west especially you'd think they would make a note of it at least. However one possible stumbling block is a measure added to the Senate bill to allow people to carry loaded guns in national parks
Without looking into it, sounds like something intended to kill the bill to me.

Re: Credit card bill
It was not intended to kill the bill. It is a piece of legislation that is going to go through anyway so it appears it was tacked on to garner more support for the credit card bill. One of the last things the Bush administration did was to correct the oversight that banned concealed carry in parks. One of the anti-gun groups pushed it into the courts to tie things up....you know how we have been reading about the rivers of blood flowing from the parks due ot concealed guns
. The moderate Dems in the Senate are going to throw this through either way as the gun fight appears to be off the books until Pelosi can garner support for it....and that is not going to be until after the midterm elections. The Dems appear to be politically smarter about that than they were with Klinton in office.

Re: Credit card bill
The move caps a years-long crusade by consumer groups and Democrats to rein in what they say are abusive practices that prey on consumers. The approval came despite strong objections by banking industry advocates, who say it could result in tightened credit to Americans.
The House voted 361-64 in favor and also approved by 279-147 an unrelated measure allowing people to carry guns into national parks.
The Senate passed the credit card bill, along with the unrelated gun measure, by a 90-5 vote on Tuesday.
The bill is expected to be signed by President Obama as soon as Friday.
Looks like both went through easily.

Re: Credit card bill
This doesn't have anything to do with the credit card reform bill, but Biden's net worth can be measured in the low hundreds of thousands, not millions. Most of his net worth is in the form from personal investments with a few mutual funds and from his 2007 book, for which he got an advance of around $100k. I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to get at there.Aabidano wrote:It will be a big hit to the people who've made Biden a millionaire.

That's what I get for listening to the news without following up

I still don't trust him, his stances on most issues of finance reform have been very pro-business. Unlike Obama's I might add.

His wife makes 60-70k, so his personal income is under 200k.

Re: Credit card bill
On the national park thing for guns, as I understood it you can concealed carry in national parks with the proper license.
However, you can not carry into any of the lodges, etc. in the park as they are considered federal buildings.
Perhaps this is an open carry thing, but again really doesn't need to be in a credit card bill.
