Video Game Sales Thread

Post by Fairweather Pure »

9.99 games, and lots of them. This is going on all week long, only 4-5 are advertised ontheir website.

I picked up: Supreme Commander, Alone in the Dark, Pure, Infinite Undiscovery, and Devil May Cry 4 (so far).

My friend picked up: C&C Red Alert 2, Warhammer Battle March, and some of the ones above that I also got.

The ones I wanted that are sold out as I type this: Soul Caliber 4 and 2 others that slip my mind...

Anyway, both the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Best Buys are picked clean as a bone, but both stores told me that this is going on for a week, and more trucks are coming in all the time.

Re: MASSIVE sale on 360 games at Best Buy

Post by Fairweather Pure »

Best Buy's website only listed 4-5 Xbox games that were all out of stock by the time I saw them. The Brick and mortor stores have the complete listing and whatever stock they have of those games is only 9.99. As I said above, both of my local Best Buys were completely picked over. Despite both places telligng me they may get more stock throughout the week, I'm not holding my breath. I think it's "what you see is what you get", and once it's gone, it's gone for good.

And yes, this sale is cross platform to all video games. Xbox has thas the vast majority though.

My local Best Buy said they are expecting a truck on Thursday and Friday am. The product should be on the shelf by noon, if there is any on the truck. I plan on being there around 11:30 each day just in case. There are about 5-6 more games I would grab for 10 bucks each. I did not end up getting Infinite Undiscovery or Devil May Cry 4 because the website was sold out.

All in all, I'm wanting:

Condemned 2
Devil May Cry 4
Enemy Territory Quake Wars
Infinite Undiscovery
Pure
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Soul Calibur 4
Universe at War

80$ for all those is a steal IMO.

Just a FYI, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a fucking awesome game on PC... it's just horrible on consoles.
And if you can actually find copies of the other 7 they are top picks.

For PS3:
Quantum of Solace is surprisingly fun
Ferrari Challenge is a decent racing game
Disney Sing It w/Mic is a good deal for the mic which works with Singstar... and if you like karaoke games, the Singstar titles are a major steal for $10

I picked up the Walmart "buy 2, get one free" from the 360 platinum hits collection. It's online only. I got Army of Two, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Viva Pinata for 40$.

I then found Mass Effect in it's original box, not the platinum hits box, for 9.99$ at Target.

I topped things off with Mercinaries 2 for 19.99$ at Best Buy, and a mis-priced Red Faction for 39.99$ at Meijers. I would like to say that I told the guy at the counter and he was a fucking dick about it, so fuck Meijers, I'll take it 20 bucks cheaper because your employee was a cock.

So, 100$ later I have 6 new games.

Prototype is out this Tuesday and as I said in another thread, Toys R Us is giving away a 20$ gift card with the purchase of the game. I think I'll get Far Cry 2 with the gift card as long as it's 30$ or less at Toys R Us.

Oh yeah, Price of Persia is once again Amazon's deal of the day, only it's 20$ instead of 25.

Oddly, when I got mine, it was the collector's edition. It says nothing about that on the product discription page. I had a firend order his copy today for 20$, so we'll see if his ends up being a collector's edition as well.

Picked up FEAR 2 for 15$ at Target today. Oddly enough, the price varies from store to store. It can be as high as 35 or as low as 15.

Also, Wal-Mart has Soul Calibur 2 for 16$, online only.

Me too, I will probably enjoy it just because of how much I loved the first game. I picked up Infinite Undiscovery over lunch too. My backlog of games is getting to be a little bit out of control now, I really don't have any business buying games at this point.

I still have a few games to get caught up on now...

Just finished Crimson Gem Saga on my PSP and starting FF7 Crisis Core.
Still playing through Red Faction (loving the multiplayer) and still haven't finished Prototype.. Cross Edge is getting a little bit of play.

The only game I'll be picking up in the next while is BlazBlue Calamity Trigger. I'm uber fucking pissed at EB Games for not being able to fill my special edition preorder, and now they are telling me that the regular edition isn't due until the 28th.

I've been that way for ages. I think of it more along the lines of fleshing out my catalogue of genres so I can play pretty much anything I want, whenever I want. I was happy to get Hawx since I don't own any sort of flight sim games, just like I was happy to get Streetfighter 4 because I have no fighters. I've still not landed a copy of Soul calibur 4 yet. I've missed every sale on that game for one reason or another. My sports games could use a little fleshing out, so maybe I'll pick up some of the '09 series when the new ones come out. A Madden and Tiger Woods would be cool if I get them cheap. I need more RPGs too. I play a little bit of everything all the time.

Similar to my movie collection, I just like to have everything on hand so I can play whatever I feel like, whenever I want. My friends love coming over for gaming nights in large part to the variety I have to play.

While waiting for new releases, it's always fun to find the sales!

I'm on the last area of Red Faction. Such a great game. And yes, the multiplayer is great too. I think I stretched it out a little too long by doing every single side quest up until Eos. Now, I just kind of want to finish it. Once that is done, I'm thinking FEAR 2, then Prototype as my main games but I'm not sure. I may need kind of a break from horror themed stuff for awhile.

Since I play so many games at once, I have a lot of little goals here and there to complete. Tomorrow night I'm hoping to finish off the last chapter in Gears of War 1 on Hardcore with a friend. He then wants to do the same thing in Gears 2 as well as Horde Mode, but I'm partial to doing Hawx co-op for a break. We'll see.

Glad I only paid $20 for it. I got almost full value back when I traded it in.

Mirror's Edge is a rental at best.
Great concept, mediocre execution, some really frustrating design choices and way too fucking shot.

Even $20 for a game that you can finish in one or two sessions is poor value.

People seem torn on Mirror's Edge. I wouldn't pay 60 for it, so 20 is a great deal to me. Actually, if a game has ever been on my radar and it hits a 20$ price point, I'll likely pick it up. Target has Chronicles of Riddick: Assulat on Dark Athena for 30$. I've heard good things, but that's 10 bucks more than I'm willing to pay.

My friend picked up FEAR 2 at the same Target I bought mine last week, only it was 12.50 instead of 14.98. He called to gloat because he knows how much I love the deals.

Amazon has some deals on a couple of RPGs I've been wanting to get, so I may just order them all at once since I have some coupons laying around here somewhere. Blue Dragon, Last Reminant, Infinite Undiscovery, and 2 more I can't think of right now. If I could get them all for 60-70$ out of pocket, I think that's a good deal.

I might pick up Eternal Sonata on Amazon, it's like 25.99 and is the last of the RPG's that came out that I wasn't willing to pay full price for but wanted to play that I haven't picked up yet.

I don't have a specific place I look up gaming deals. Most of the time I stumble on them by accident. Although, I do have Amazons deal of the day on Twitter. I have a couple of friends that let me know whenever they find a deal. The past few
sales I mentioned in this thread were thanks to them. Other times I just post when I find a good deal completely on accident, like FEAR 2.

Amazon has Blue Dragon for 8$. I found that just by browsing.

I hear cheapassgamer is a good site forcdeal announcements. Those people had the Best Buy 9.99 blowout before anybody, but I was late to that party.

Thanks for the heads up on cheapassgamer.com - that is quite a good site. Turns out Gamestop is doing another buy 2 get 1 free on used games tomorrow through Sunday. I'll probably pick up Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vespiria, and either Red Faction or the new Scene It game and I will literally have bought every game I want for the 360, at least until this fall starts things all over again :)

Funk, you and I gotta do something about our backlogs. I was thinking about starting a thread where us and others list out all the games we own. You could do a thread for each system. All I really give a shit about is 360 though.

Anyway, anyone who wants to participate can list all thier games and seperate them into a few categories like ones you've finished, haven't really played at all, are close to beating, or perhaps ones you would like to play co-op or something. A spereate list for XBL games would be nice too. I also think this would be a good way to kinda sorta track when you add games to your collection since everything would be in one spot and could be edited/moved around as you finish games.

I think it would be fun to see what everyone has, and if we have enough people with the same games, we could issue some VV challanges or all start a game at the same time or something like that. I'm just trying to think of some fun motivation to play certian games in our libraries. For instance, we start playing Bionic Commando next week. We could make a thread calling it "game of the week" and discuss our progress with others.

I decided I was going to put in and play the 12 games I own that have never even been in my Xbox. I played each one until I unlocked at least 1 acheivement. Just look at my gamer card, lol.
That was pretty fucking fun. I still have 2 more to play and I'm going to do that right now.

It's late and I'm tired. I'm just riffing here...

Sounds like a plan to me. I have a Excel spreadsheet at home that I use to keep track of all my games, so putting mine into a list would be as easy as copy/paste :)

I'll make one thread like you said with a list separated by system and by what I have and haven't played.

Then after I get some replies we can start talking about a game of the week or something.

I actually don't even have my xbox right now, it's still at my apartment and being the nice guy that I am (I know that may be hard to believe) I don't want to take anything out of the apartment cause my ex is still living there and I don't want it to be any harder for her to be there than it already is by making the place half empty.. SOOOO, life story aside I don't know when I could actually start participating but maybe I'll work up the nerve to go there and get my games/tv.

Good ideas though, cause yes the backlog is getting out of control (and might get 3 more games deep at lunch today, rofl).

Target is having a buy 1, get the other game for 50% off. Sale runs 7/19 - 7/25.

I may go for a couple of cheap titles, especially if they have the RPGs I'm looking for.

In case you were either holding out or saving up for Street Fighter IV on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, now would be an excellent time to scrape up those pennies and head to GameStop.

How cheap is cheap? How about $40 off the normal retail price? That's right, GameStop has marked down Street Fighter IV new for the PS3 and 360 to only $19.99.

FutureShop is currently selling LocoRoco 2 and Patapon 2 online and in-store for 9.99$ each.

Needless to say I went and bought both.

I was at Wal Mart yesterday and was holding a copy of Mirror's Edge in a bargain bin for 20$. I decided against it eventually, saving the money instead. Had I not had plans for bigger purchases down the line however, I totally would've jumped.

It's a fun game.. just too short to warrant even a $20 price tag, IMO.

I'll go against the grain and say I think it's totally worth 20$. Mirror's edge is one of those games that divides gamers. I appreciatwd the originality, style, and graphics. I hated not knowing where to go next. It has more replayability than most games because once you know what you're suppossed to do, you can simply have fun doing all of the jumps and acrobatics.

Best Buy is doing buy 1 game, get the other 1/2 off. This applies
to preorders. I'm seriously considering buying all of my games for the rest of the year with this deal. That works out to about 45$ per game.
