Turbine is having a 2nd anniversary sale.

As well, any existing customer can upgrade their month to month account to a 3, 6 or 12 month plan and their monthly charge from here on out(or until they drop back to Monthly) will be 10$ a month.

If I hadn't already started playing this a couple months ago I'd be jumping at this. I just got to the point where I can enjoy the expansion content and it is one of the best MMO expansions I've played.

Hey Tuberok...I had the same experience. Thought Beta was pretty weak, but I'm enjoying the game far too much now.

Animalor, Kaldaur and I are on Landroval server.

Me = Vintyr, 56 Hunter
Animalor = Sandralina, 40 Minstrel
Kaldaur = Kaldaur, 36? Minstrel

Animalor and I are in a small Kinship(guild) made up of some friendly folks I met along my adventures. We've got a handful of players in the 50-60 range as well as lower and mid-levels. Not hardcore by any means, but certainly helpful and friendly.

Send a tell(or in-game mail) whether or not you're interested in the Kin... I'll gladly help ya get situated with the game or join ya on some adventures.

Sounds good. I have a few toons on that server. Just been playing each class a few levels to figure out what I floats my boat so to speak. As soon as I feel a bit grounded I will give you a shout. I think I also talked Gravn an old school veeshanite to come join me in LOTRO.
So far a really good balance of fun but being able to not let it suck me in like the old days.

I've never played as a Minstrel, but it seems they can do CC, healing, and damage. They seem to be the primary healing class in the game.

I have been away for a bit, but will be returning mid-May. This is band concert season, and I have six concerts to direct and a marching band to prep for the upcoming summer. I would echo the fact that this game is a great deal more fun now than it was during beta. Plus, the fact that I can see firsthand a world that shaped my childhood is so rewarding in itself, it's worth all the play time I put in.

Yup! You can tell that the artistic team put a TON of energy into making each region something worthy of Tolkiens work. The graphics aren't just technically impressive, but artistically as well.

I think the whole download is around 7gb. That includes the recent version of the original game w/ all the free content updates, and the Moria expansion.

I'm currently in the region of Annuminas, doing quests for Aragorn's folk. I am hopefully going to be moving up to Angmar soon, then off to Moria.

=( that's rather too large a chunk of my 40Gb/month that I share with 2 mail servers and 4 co-workers.

I bet if I tried to get it retail it'd be about $150 here too...

Yeah very noob friendly. The game has a built-in quest tracking system like QuestHelper or Carbonite addons from WoW. You can turn it off if you want, but it makes beginning the game much easier.

Our bandwidth is mostly backhauled over the Pacific Ocean, so it's a little more expensive than laying cable on land...

Sort of, it's more like short term buffs you play. "Spell" A enables B which enables C, use a different ability, go back to A again. Haven't seen any DoT type spells yet, and you can't be moving while you cast that I've seen.

Minstels have a couple of different types of abilities. There are buffs/debuffs called Ballads. These have tiers 1 through 4. You have to play a Tier 1 ballad to access tier 2, then 3 then 4. If you have access to rank 2, you can play another rank 2 in a row. Same for rank 3. Once you play a rank 4, it knocks you back and you have to start back at rank 1.

Minstrels are healers by trade and get many healing abilities. There's also a DD mode for Minstrels that cripples healing ability but allows you to use a couple of decent DD abilities.

All in all it's an enjoyable class.

So is everyone on Landroval? 3 friends and I might pick it up and play for $10 for a few months.

Having a hard time picking a class.

Edit: Are Guardians the only main tank, and everything else is offtank? Or are other classes ok for offtanking while leveling (with this games equivalent to dungeons). I'm looking at burglar, champion, hunter, but one of us needs to be a healer and one a tank.

Into the 50s now and recently hit Moria. They did an amazing job on it, very much like I imagined it from the books. The game follows the story line and world Tolkien created very well.

Couple other random thoughts - The player community is incredibly nice. The only rudeness\idiocy you generally see is in the newbie zones, not sure where the kiddies go after that but the behavior goes away. Paid GMs actually exist and from what I've seen respond promptly and take care of business.
