Western Digital Raptor (150GB 10kRPM) Issues

Post by Canelek »

So I had initially had my 2 drives in a stripe for performance, running Vista64. Things were fine for a while until I started getting nvstor64 BSODs, and various other lockups and whatnot. I figured it was a Vista issue, since all my firmware, drivers, etc were up to spec.

It basically got the point where I said fuck it and broke the array, and just ran the OS from a single drive.

Things were fine for a while, then the single drive started to take a shit, freezing up Windows, failing to be recognized on post and finally losing its MBR. I knew it was over when I couldn't even get to the Vista repair menu on the CD. Other drive, same thing.

So to troubleshoot, I bought a Barracuda drive to test, since it was cheap, and I will eventually need the extra storage.

Everything works fine.

Anyway, I am thinking I just got a bad batch of drives (this was last April). Hey, it happens.

Has anyone lese had severe meltdowns with these drives? I am going to look up my RMA options later...hopefully, they are good about returns/replacements...

Oh, I am retarded. Yes, it is WD, not Seagate.

Oh, so anyway, it was my mobo the whole time....fucked up SATA. I am going to RMA the cocksucker.

I picked up a mobo at Fry's yesterday to use, and will use the RMA board for another system build down the line.

Both drives are now in a stripe and performing nicely.
