Milk

Post by Canelek »

Surprised this has not been mentioned... (please insert London accent here)

Milk is based on the adult life of Harvey Milk, a prominant gay activist of the 70s and 80s. It was excellently portrayed by Sean Penn, who had gone full retard at one time, but has now redeemed himself. I found this film to be most excellent, and worthy of full praise.

Gus Van Sant is a dark and dreary director, but has his moments. This is one of them.

Cheers!

I'm pretty sure they prefer being called "mentally challenged" or some such shite (=P), but coincidentally when Sean Penn went "full retard" (I Am Sam) is right about the time I thought he started a fantastic comeback - having starred in 4 fantastical, critically acclaimed and oscar-nominated movies including and since (I Am Sam, 21 Grams, Mystic River, Milk)

Agreed in that this movie was all kinds of awesome. I'm torn between this and Frost/Nixon for Best Picture in this year's academy awards. Not only was Sean Penn's (real life) character exceptional and beautifully-played but the supporting cast, I found, was phenomenal. Josh Brolin as Dan White was amazing. I felt he gave his character a depth to what could easily be the most complex character in the movie. I felt both anger and sympathy towards him in equal measure. Emile Hirsch and James Franco were also wonderful.

Just making sure that you realize that Canelek was making a Tropic Thunder reference there!

Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed...

I was hoping this was a movie about boobies. I guess it is more about anti-boobies. :(

This movie was fucking awesome!
