Gran Torino

Post by Aardor »

Has anyone seen this? Between the reviews and trailers, I have become very excited about this movie. Unfortunately, it is only limited released till 1/9, but I was curious if anyone living in a bigger city than I do (well, big enough to get limited releases) has seen it, and if so, what they thought?

It's not the best thing Clint's done in recent memory but I really enjoyed the story and his performance.
The performances of the other actors were downright awful.

So Million Dollar Baby/True Crime were better? Sucks he had no supporting cast, but I guess that's ok when you have Eastwood being a baller.

Million Dollar Baby was brilliant but I didn't really like True Crime so I would put Gran Torino somewhere between them.

If you're a fan of Clint, this movie is a definite must-see.
The supporting cast is mostly unknown Asian actors and actresses.
The guy who plays the pastor from the church put in a pretty decent performance.

I downloaded a screener yesterday (I know, I know...), I'll let you know if I think it lives up to the hype. The movie I did see that's gotten very good reviews was Revolutionary Road, which I found to be fantastic. Wonderful redo for the Titanic couple (Dicaprio and Winslet).

Clint Eastwood doesn't make bad movies (at least not in recent history), though this one didn't live up to the hype for me and killed his streak of great films in my mind (though it doesn't diminish his status as a living legend...nothing can). It was neat to see Clint play an angry old man (no one does it better) but there were so many problems I had with the move that outweighed his performance.

It was a great film only hindered by (as Miir said) the supporting cast. The girl who played Sue had quite a few moments where the lines felt extremely forced. Still, she didn't have shit on the actor behind Thao. That was one of the worst performances all year.
[Show]
When Walt locked Thao up in his home before he went to "fight" the gang and Thao started yelling, it was physically painful to watch.
Clint, on the other hand, was a goddamn badass son of a bitch.

Saw it today, thought it was fantastic. Didn't expect to laugh as much as I did.

Am I the only one who thought the "bad guys" were kind of ridiculous? They just seemed like walking cliches that were poorly acted.

Hmm, I don't see a single post from anyone NOT liking this movie.
I liked the movie a lot... I just think it could have been a lot better.

I didn't like the movie. In fairness, I stopped watching about 25 minutes in. Maybe testicles are required to appreciate the 24 hour grimace on Clint Eastwood's face. The story seemed interesting! I just couldn't stare at that angry mug for one more minute.

Laneela, you should watch it the whole way through.

Clint Eastwood doesn't make bad films. Still, the acting from virtually everyone (except Eastwood and the Priest guy) in this film really is noticeably, and uncomfortably bad.

Still, it's not about the other actors. It's about Clint Eastwood showing he's still infinitely fucking harder than anyone, despite the fact he must be nearly Eighty.

"Shut your fuckin face" has got to be one of the best delivered lines in recent Cinema. It reminded me, more than anything he has done, why Clint Eastwood is the absolute fucking man. 8)

Wife and I On-Demanded this last night. Both of us thought it was one of the best movies ever. Gangster acting aside, the story and the language that is regularly used but can't be in entertainment for the bullshit politically correct era that has sprung up, was great. And I don't know how many men who are at Clint's age level that can STILL be an intimidating character.
Just a great great movie.
