Legend of the Seeker

Post by Boogahz »

I just overheard someone at work talking about this being the Sword of Truth series on WGN. I knew that there were talks before about these books being made into a movie or TV show, but I did not realize that it was already out. I set up my DVR to record it. It comes on twice on Saturdays (3:00 and 4:00 Central). She was saying that it has been really faithful to the books so far.

Has anyone been watching this?

My wife and I have been watching it. We enjoy it, but I don't think it's been all that faithful. Yes, you have Richard, Kahlen, and Zed traveling around trying to defeat Darken Rahl, but each week they get sidetracked by some distraction. The distraction usually doesn't have anything to do with the anything in the book. I believe it's being produced by the same guy that did Hercules and Xena. It's decent enough, but it's not a substitute for the book.

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

Yep the Raimi Brothers are involved, so a possible Bruce Cambell cameo incoming!

I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. I figured they were. It feels like Hercules or Xena with slightly higher production values. I watched the premiere and had no inclination to watch anymore.

Best moment of the premiere: after making a big deal about the chick getting a new set of clothes other than her wispy white dress, WHAM, she's suddenly back in the white dress for the final showdown. At least they make her lean forward a lot, so there's at least something worth watching.

How many episodes have aired so far? Judging from the episode description that I read when I was setting up the recordings online with the Uverse DVR, it sounded like it was still very early in the storyline in the books. Even if they slowed things down with the side stories, they couldn't have aired too many yet.

*edit*

I found the upcoming episode list which makes it look like I might have to wait a bit for them to be recorded before watching them in order:

Wed. Dec. 10 9:00 PM WGNAMER Identity #1.7
Sat. Dec. 13 4:00 PM WGNAMER Identity #1.7
Sat. Dec. 13 5:00 PM WGNAMER Prophecy #1.1
Sat. Dec. 13 8:00 PM CW Identity #1.7
Sat. Dec. 13 9:00 PM CW Prophecy #1.1
Mon. Dec. 15 9:00 PM WGNAMER Prophecy #1.1
Sat. Dec. 20 4:00 PM WGNAMER Prophecy #1.1
Sat. Dec. 20 5:00 PM WGNAMER Destiny #1.2
Sat. Dec. 20 8:00 PM CW Prophecy #1.1
Sat. Dec. 20 9:00 PM CW Destiny #1.2

Not airing in Canada yet so I don't feel bad about torrenting it.

Watched Episode 1 and 2.

They did a decent enough job with the casting. Richard looks a bit too youngish but Kahlan and Zedd were well cast.

As is expected, they took a lot of liberty with the story but a lot of elements from the first book were there.

The whole naming ceremony was the weakest part of the show. They're also rushing the whole love angle between Richard and Kahlan way too fast.

The ending of Ep2 was kinda corny. Going episodic is probably what will kill this. Was fun seeing the characters on the screen though.

yeah i just watched the premiere on hulu last night. i noticed the wardrobe swapping too, dregor.. thought that was a hoot

what had me facepalming was how no one thought to inform Richard that the boundary has spirits in it that will try to kill you prior to them arriving at the boundary. "Hey richard, just a heads up... there's this boundary thing up here and you might hear your recently-slain father's voice calling out to you. ITS A TRAP"

so yeah. i gave it an honest shot.. but i dont want to watch any more episodes.
I TOLD YOU ID SHOOT! BUT YOU DIDNT BELIEVE ME! WHY DIDNT YOU BELIEVE ME?

This was simpler than trying to set the DVR up for the crazy line up to catch me up on episodes.

I think I finished 1&2 which were combined, and 3. It was easy to see how it was going to stray from the books early on, but it was still enjoyable. I don't know that I would ever move my schedule around just to watch it, but catching episodes online will satisfy me when I have no dvds waiting to be watched.
