Couric has to Dumb it Down for Palin

Post by Xyun »

If your stomach has some fortitude you will be able to make it to the part in this video towards the end where Katie Couric actually has to talk to Sarah Palin as if she’s a child. The look on Couric’s face at one point is priceless! It screams “why the FUCK do I have to interview this idiot?”

lol.

Not hearing where she had to dumb it down. Couric was actually trying to cut through some rethoric and get specific examples of McCain's track record that Palin didn't have on hand though.

What I thought was a lot MORE notable though was the absolutely obvious breaking in Palin's voice in both segments(but was much more obvious in the walking part).

Could she be starting to crack at the seams under all the pressure?

That was pretty embarassing.
To be fair, she didn't have any preparation time for the questions, but on the other hand, if you promose your running mate for something, you should be able to give examples other than rhetorics.

McCain's camp has been trying to keep Palin off limits from the press, and it's pretty embarassing. Her recent visit to the UN was marked no reporters, but the networks threw such a fit that they finally let a CNN producer in to watch her interactions with heads of state. And now, with the buzz about McCain's suspension, and the eventual statement that they want to postpone the VP debates, it looks like McCain's attempt to suspend the campaign and help Congress--a Congress that was already making a deal without him, even before he announced his suspension--was just so he could avoid the VP debates. I sincerely wish I had cable so I could watch both of them, but I don't. Does anyone know a website that will be broadcasting the debates live?

No wonder McCain doesn't trust her to carry on his campaign while he is off saving the economy.

That is truely and honestly embarrassing. I actually feel sorry for Palin. She should never have been brought on board.

No wonder she isn't allowed to talk to anybody.

Every interview I see of hers makes me more and more certain that jesusfreak does not belong anywhere near the White House. The sad thing is some idiotic people will ignore all that and vote for this trainwreck of a ticket anyway.

Sadly, three weeks after Palin was announced as the VP I can count her number of interviews on 1 hand. Not only is that sad, it's also very telling.

I listened to Hannity on the radio today for 20 minutes trying to somehow spin the McCain campaign suspension as a good thing. It was actually nice not to have to hear him try and spin Palin into a good pick for a day. I mean, that's a full time job right there.

Nah, I don't feel bad for her. She is trying to bullshit a tough interviewer. On a positive note though.... it is nice to see that she protects the Alaskan borders from outlaw nations such as Russia and Canada. I was worried there for a while.

Doesn't that seem like a bit of a gamble to be a tactic? I'm not sure that would be the best strategy to have her faking ignorance in the very few interviews she's granted, as it's most of the exposure that the American public has had to her.

I never expected her to be an expert on the economy or foreign policy... nor do I expect Obama to be. I think it's pretty funny actually, to expect this chick who just got picked to be VP to already be an authority on everything.

FUCK, that was worse than the first part. Im surprised that Couric could actually keep a straight face....well, of course that mean that there was one competent woman in that room.
But seriously, anyone who claim that you have foreign policy expertise from living in a state that got a sealine that borders on a country on another continent (ok, making an assumption here, im not sure that Alaskas sea line borders on the russian, but i sure hope so, or its just even worse) is just delusional.

Was she interviewing Dick Cheney?

Did you know Joe Biden said Roosevelt was on TV in 1929 talking about the Great Depression? TV wasn't invented, and Roosevelt wasn't president. Smooth.

Is that your best defense for the single most career ending interview I have seen since Perot is a gaffe by Biden? If that Biden soundbyte never happened, what would your next fallback be? Does Biden's gaffe actually make this interview ok to you?

It's a schoolyard tactic. My candidate sucks? Well yours sucks worse!

Take this for exactely what it is. Palin showed that she is completely unprepared for anything having to do with the country or world at large.

Anyone that tries to defend this interview is either so bias that they would vote anyone in the office as long as it wasn't a Democrat, or they have the amazing abilty to suspend all logic and reason in order to justify their view that Palin is in some way remotely prepared to be VP of the United States of America.

How can any republican watch that interview and think she is ready to lead anything? After that, I'm impressed that she manages to put her shoes on the correct feet. This is not a game. This is not you vs me or republican vs Democrat. This is simply responsible vs irresponsible. Electing Palin in the capacity of VP is totally irresponsible. Anyone that watches that interview has to see that.

She doesn't have to win the debate for those that know whats going on, she has to win the whack vote over in the debate. There's more people that will vote based on lame issues (religion, etc) than those that will vote for the things that actually matter.

She'll have to completely break down on stage to hurt the party. We've all seen that she can be a good speaker once she gets rolling. I predict she uses the sidestep strategy. Address the question with maybe one line and then totally go off on another tangent that she can rattle off powerful lines to capture the easily distracted vote.

She seems to be good at throwing out talking points and watching for people's reactions.
When she figures out what people want to hear, she just regurgitates the speeches she has memorized.

This obviously didn't work in the Couric interview and it won't work in a debate.

Last night local news followed some of the highlights of this with the clip of the church service with the preacher protecting Palin from witchcraft. I'm not sure if that proves that Katie Couric is not a witch or if the protection failed. Either way not an impressive day for Palin.

*edit*
Winnow is correct, It's all about the fringe swing vote. Are there enough women in Ohio and Colorado that will vote for a woman on the ticket no mater what? Perhaps even more worrisome are there enough yahoos in Florida that think a VP protected from witchcraft is a good thing?

It doesn't matter what her exposure is now. If she does well or reasonably well in the debates, easy to do with such low expectations, the spin will wipe all this stuff off the table. They could hide her away until after the election at that point. It is the first impression and the last impression that count.

Most of us have already made up our minds... There are a couple here who haven't, but its a tiny minority. I went from Ron Paul, to Obama, and now McCain... I did support Obama, but I still wasn't totally convinced. I have issues with the determination and urgency with which he has handled his drive towards the presidency. I have issues with his speaking abilities, vague and uplifting, lacking real substance and honesty. I have issues with the contrast between the ideas he says he has, and the lack of any attempt to submit them as bills in congress. It finally solidified in me that he is a car salesmen, willing to tell us anything to get the job, and I think we'll find it's a lemon later on. The things I liked about Obama were his warm personality, and the idea of having a 'washington outsider.' Unfortunately, he isn't an outsider, and Biden is a terrible and angry choice for VP.

I hate the two party system, and want to vote on the person... McCain has been through a lot and always supported his country and his president, has been bi-partisan more than anyone else in congress, and actually submits legislation to be considered and made law. Palin, like many VP picks in the past, may be a moron... but she brings the personality and a true 'outsider' status to the ticket. I feel that in the weeks since she was selected for VP, she has been grilled far harder than Obama has in the whole campaign.

I liked the opinion piece in Pravda.. This guy needs to start posting on VV:
The candidate for the Vice Presidency of the United States of America, whose experience in small town politics, mothers´day dos and the local hockey club is her claim to fame, threatened to open the gates of Hell by attacking Russia in the event of another invasion of Georgia in a televised interview on ABC. One question for this self-opinionated upstart: Do you know what a nuclear holocaust is?

Sarah Palin, Mrs. Nobody know-it-all shreiking cow from Alaska, the joke of American politics, plied with a couple of vodkas before letting rip in front of incredulous audiences while McCain coos in the background, cuts a ridiculous figure as she strives to be taken seriously.

How can anyone whose husband is a member of the Alaska Independence Party and who is running for the Vice Presidency of the Union be taken seriously? How indeed can the Republican Party be taken seriously for not vetting this female, or have they not yet discovered the skeletons in her closet? We have.

So Sarah Palin, Mrs. Hockey Mom housewife-cum-small-town gossip merchant and cheap little guttersnipe, suppose you shut up and allowed real politicians and diplomats to do their work? Threatening Russia with a war is perhaps the most irresponsible thing anyone could do at this moment in time. Have you any idea what a nuclear holocaust is? Have you any notion of the power of Russia’s armed forces? Did you know that Russia has enough missiles to destroy any target anywhere on Earth in seconds?

And have you not forgotten, you pith-headed little bimbo from the back of beyond, that small detail about the slaughter of Russian citizens by Georgians, which started the whole debacle? So next time suppose you keep your mouth shut and while you’re at it, make sure the members of your family keep their legs shut too. Your country has enough failed mothers as it is.
Ouch.

Anyone who votes on a ticket with Palin on it is a moron.

Let me respond in kind: That article is rubbish. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron.

There's nothing wrong with keeping Russia in check.

Im still betting on an October surprise. I really don't think Palin's name will make it to the actual ticket.

Last night's SNL parody of the interview. Great stuff. I kind of hope Palin gets elected so I can see Fey play her every week. Such a spot on impersonation, it's scary!

No, it's really not rubbish. It's actually much too kind.

Also, what a surprise, a republican unable to accept reality. - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/2 ... 30007.html

And apparently humans and dinosaurs existed at the same time according to Palin! Which is no surprise, since she believes the earth is 6000 years old.

Anyone who votes for the McCain/Palin ticket is living in a fucking fantasy world and needs to be told as such.

wtf was that shit!? Fash may be clinging to ignorance to justify something but you are being an asshole.
He wasn't directing it at fash. He was directing it at me. He, not too unlike aslanna, spang, and at time a few others here, has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will at no point in time have any real substance to add to ANY of the forums on this website.

He is just here to bash me and a few others, and while I don't want to be the one to break his heart, someone here should tell him that he isn't doing a very good job of that..
