Heavy Rain (PS3)
Been keeping an eye on this title.
Looks pretty amazing graphically.
So far, all I can find are bootleg videos of gameplay:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dot2PF5CUTY
She character looks like a mannequin but still cool:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCClcsD3GcU
This is in French but shows them making a model:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CdpLevrta4
Controls for the game are more like those for a driving game:

Indigo Prophecy peeps are behind thing game I think.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Good article from creator of Heavy Rain discussing how most actors don't give a shit about voice acting in games but also covers a lot about Heavy Rain:
http://www.nowgamer.com/news/48/interview-david-cage
as a follow up, on Kotaku, there are some decent actors for games mentioned:

Here's some guy speaking gibberish (foreign language) over a Heavy Rain video:
**NWS, Boobies near end of clip**

Looks like the game's going to be appealing visually. It also looks like it's going to be mostly movie-like. God of War like...hit the right button, move the joystick at the right time. Instead of killing Gods, you're balancing grocery bags as you walk down stairs so you don't spill them!

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
In one review, they say the first hour of the game is completely mundane. You're setting the table for dinner and stuff like that. However, it takes a pretty drastic change after that. I'm interested in how they will market this. You don't want people having a "Brutal Legend" momment when they realize what they bought is no where near what was advertised.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
There is a site that you can get a demo for this game early (I believe nowish) from. You have to solve a couple of puzzles and you get a download code. The spoiler is the solution if you just want to get the code:
The website is http://www.precinct52.com/case1117_briefing
The site is down right now because of a shit ton of people trying to get some demo action, but I'm gonna keep trying

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
I don't even want a demo for this game. I know it is going to be quite a unique gaming experience, so I'm happy to go into it with my eyes closed and hope for the best. I'm not as excited for this game like I am for a myriad of other titles this spring, but I do look forward to playing it.
Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
I loved their Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy for you US people who are too scared of nudity and sex scenes
), and i willl get this for the PS3, dont need a demo

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
I'd recommend preordering this game. I bet it will be hard to find. Like Demon Souls was the first month it was out.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Demo went up yesterday on the PSN.
I just got through playing it. While the game is technically fantastic, voice acting is up there with Uncharted 2and story seems great, in the end this is a game who's sole gameplay mechanics are Quick Time Events. It's kinda like having a hamburger completely made out of pickles. A little of something is usually good and adds flavor, but too much of it usually ends up tasting wierd..
I won't be paying full price for this one for sure.. Perhaps once it drops to Greatest Hit category.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Tried this out.
Graphics and sound are outstanding.
but...wtf is this game? It makes you do common things and awards you as if it were training a monkey to push a button to get a piece of candy. This is like a cool CGI movie that makes you do all the shit that normally you can sit back and enjoy watching. Seriously, the multi button pressing is more annoying than satisfying.
press and hold X, keeping holding X while you press and hold the Square button...keep pressing those while additionally pressing the L1 button...huh? You're going to go through this entire game just looking for the symbol indicators telling you to shake your remote, wiggle this, push this...it's like they took the horrible God of War times button lame idea and lost their grip, making you to complex controller motions just to open a fucking car door.
Game visually looks cool and the audio is great. Sound effects and rain/water effects look cool. As with other games, I'd like to see this kind of detail visually in an MMORPG.
This game will be worth checking out for the visual and audio feast but I'm not convinced on the game play. Kinda frustrating not having a free roaming camera view as well. Why do they show an exteme close up of the main characters face during the MANY disc access transitions?
Why do I have to look at the response reaction choices flying around and then disappearing? Bioaware's nice convo wheel works well without making you dizzy.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
I think you're missing the entire point of the game (actually, I know you are). They have never pulled any punches about this not being a typical game. There isn't really gameplay in the typical sense. This game is about the characters, the story, and most importantly about the choices you make.Winnow wrote:Tried this out.

If you play it expecting it to be anything like other games, you aren't going to like it at all.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Sounds like the old PS1 game called D.
Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
I understand the point. It plays like an interactive movie but after a few minutes, doing mundane things on screen with your controller and scrambling to choose options that are circling around the screen (what the fuck for? stabilize the fucking text choices so I can read them), you kinda get the point and they tasks become repetitive and tedious.Funkmasterr wrote:

My point is that I don't think spending 10 minutes investigating a body because it takes that long to maneuver through the odd interface and make a choice by spinning your joystick around in certain patterns is not really adding to the game. Just present a nice stationary set of options (think Mass Effect style) and let us enjoy the interaction instead of struggle with it. I had to laugh at having to do controller motions to move under some police tape, both ways...and having to press three buttons at the same time to slide by a trash dumpster...having to open your car door by slowly moving your left joystick to the right instead of just moving it to the right doesn't really add to the game. The actual action sequences remind me of the old Dragon's Lair game that was an animation that had two paths it could go depending on if you selected the right button in time. Heavy Rain's action game play is a matter of watching the screen for controller pop ups and trying to push the right button before the button vanishes. For the life of me, I don't know why they spin text choices quickly around in a circle making it a pain in the ass to read them and choose in time. That's not adding to the game, it's detracting from your decision making.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
The game has great sound, but the graphic quality (mainly animation) is all over the place. At times it shines, but others it looks like Sims 3.
I've only played about 30 minutes. Very different concept. I am enjoying it so far. I kind of want to play through this asap since I heard spoilers are popping up in the weirdest places.
Anyone know how long it takes to play through? I haven't heard anything yet about overall game length.

Is it possible to stick with one character through the whole game or are you forced to change perspective?
If you kill off three of the four characters (on purpose), are you able to complete/catch the killer just by using the last char?

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Personally, I'm just not particularly interested in playing a game that can essentially play itself with random input from the user.
A deep, deep hatred of Quick Time Events isn't helping this game's cause either.

If you detest quicktime events so much, I'd make sure to skip God of War, too
