Hand Helds

Post by Morgrym »

I am getting hit with a set of orders soon that will put me on a boat 6 months out of the year. Needless to say, I am in the market for either a PSP or DS. Looking for some feedback from those of you out there that have one or both or have used one.

Which would you prefer? The price tag on the DS is lower and the games seem cheaper and there are more of them. However, I don't know about the whole touch screen thing. The PSP looks solid with some nice sports titles plus I think it will play blu-ray discs or something like that.

I just love my DS... oodles of really good games.
If you are looking for a portable just for playing games, the DS is probably your best bet.

The PSP is really good too and is more of a multi-media device.
If you're looking for something you play games and watch movies or TV shows on, the PSP would be a better choice.

I would choose a PSP in your situation, hands down.

For me the DS is good for just screwing around, which is what I do on a handheld. A Mario Kart race here, and a chess match there kind of thing. It's easy to pick up and put down again. However, if I were to be using my handheld as my primary gaming device due to absence of console and PC, I would get a PSP because the games are better for that purpose. Also, the multi media aspects would also make it more appealing than a DS if I were in your situation.

The PSP plays UMD discs. That aspect has been a complete failure for the PSP, so you can likely find shitloads of UMD movies for dirt cheap. They look really nice on the PSP. I just can't believe Sony expected people to pay 20$ for a movie that can only play on the PSP.

There are also emulators for other games and hacks that allow you to watch other types of movies on a PSP. You can also use memory cards to expand your media abilites.

That looks like a decent buy on Ebay. Also, do a search for "UMD lot" and look for deals on bulk movies. There are deals to be found for sure.
