Braid

Post by Animalor »

So while my Xbox is in toronto getting fixed, comes out probably the most underestimated Arcade games that the console will ever see.

It's at 90% on metacritic at the moment and Eurogamer, one of the toughest review sites I've seen gave it a perfect 10/10.

This is a typical platform jumper, with an atypical twist. So far, it's far from easy but immensely satisfying. Eat your heart out, Mario.

I think the 1200 MS price is going to prevent far too many people from giving this game a try. That's really too bad because it's addictive as hell! My only complaint is that there isn't any replay value at all. Hopefully it's a long game because I don't want it to end.

My wife and I are taking turns playing it, each offering advice on how to get the current puzzle piece. My suggestion to others is simply, "think outside the box... a lot". Some puzzle pieces seem completely out of reach. Those situations will call for really off the wall tactics!

Great game.

I have to echo what Fairweather said. It seems very ingenious, and a normal platformer at first glance. However once you get into using the time control and manipulating things to get to places you thought you couldn't is where you see the depth of the puzzle portion.

My only issue being the 1200 pt price tag. With so many other things due soon like Too Human, Rockband 2, and Mercenaries 2, I am not sure it will get my dollar right now. That's unfortunate because it does seem like a really decent game.

It's about 6ish hours long. As great as it is, I don't think it was worth the money.

So $13 is too expensive for 6 hours of original gameplay?

That's pretty sad.

It's $15, and some people have beat in in less than 4 hours. I didn't use any spoilers and took my time. "Worth" is subjective. I enjoyed my time playing it, but it was a 1 stop drop of 15 bucks for me. You can download Psychonauts for the same price and it has 20+ hours of gameplay. In that sense, it is not worth it. I think it should've been 800 MS points, max.

From the post right below yours stating that it was $12.95.

I asked one question, got two different answers. $2 doesn't really make a shit of difference anyways.

There was a lot of crying and gnashing of teeth over the PA game being too expensive too, but I enjoyed the shit out of it, and there was a free demo so you could get a feel before you paid.

I dunno, I'm sure it's just that I'm glazing it over, but it seems all I see (not just on this board, but elsewhere) is people bitching that x movie/game/album is too expensive.

Anyways, sorry to hijack...continue.

Well one of the answers you got was:
1000 MS Points = 12.95

Howver, Braid is 1200 points not 1000. So some math comes into play here!

But yeah.. I was thinking it was like $30 or something from how people were complaining about it. $15 seems reasonable to me.

The price is what's standing in my way too, and only because right before I initially read this thread I was planning on buying Fable cause I had never played it.. Now I need to choose between the two (well, I don't have to, but I want to) and Fable will give me much more play time.

I didn't enjoy Fable in the slightest, but YMMV. I'll probably get this Braid game, sounds new and interesting... $15 is nothing, and I bashed whomever complained about the cost of the PA game too.

If the price/entertainment ratio is there for a game, then I'll def. pick it up. Braid seems to fit the criteria.

I liked Fable a lot...it was just way shorter than what was advertised. If it did not have so much hype surrounding it, it would have been a hell of a game. The one good thing about it was that you could replay it from an entirely different angle.

"The end level is fucking ingenious."

looks different, that's for sure. I'm not a puzzle gamer but if I was, I'd value this game at $12.42, depending on the length +- .10

I actually finally played this since it was on sale last week for $7.50.. I really had no idea what to expect but based on the hype everywhere I was expecting more than what I actually got. I wont complain about the graphics or the length like a lot of people but eh... The gameplay wasn't really enjoyable to me. I've finished three worlds so far and it's just not clicking with me. I'll finish the last two but I doubt I'll 100% this since one of the trophies/achievements is to finish the whole game in under 45 minutes. And to do that you'd have to practice the levels a few times and that's not something I think I'd like spending time doing.

Anyway.. I'm not sure I really agree with the PA comic stating that Braid is "a game that actually matters" at least not to me. I can appreciate what went into its creation so I wont say it's a bad game... It's just not my cup 'o tea. If I had spent $15 I think I'd be more disappointed but at $7.50 I think I'll manage to carry on.
