Morgan Freeman injured in car accident in Miss

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was in a hospital in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday after being injured in a car accident in Mississippi.

Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Stringer said Freeman, 71, is in serious condition. The hospital is about 90 miles north of the accident scene in rural Tallahatchie County in the Mississippi Delta.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Ben Williams confirmed Freeman was in a wreck shortly before midnight Sunday, but said he was still gathering information and had few details Monday.

Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, said he arrived at the accident scene on Mississippi Highway 32 soon after it happened about 4 miles west of Charleston, not far from where Freeman owns a home with his wife.

McFerrin said it appeared that Freeman's car was airborne went it left the highway and landed in a ditch.

"They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle," McFerrin said. "He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point."

McFerrin said bystanders converged on the scene trying to get a glimpse of the actor.

When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies," McFerrin said.

Freeman won an Oscar for his role in "Million Dollar Baby." His screen credits also include "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Driving Miss Daisy."

The hospital where Freeman is being treated is commonly known as The Med, and is an acute-care teaching facility that serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis.

I hope he's ok, he is one of my favorite actors and he seems like a very genuine, good person.

I saw him recently in the movie Wanted.
He was playing the role of Morgan Freeman.

I do enjoy his voiceovers.

Hope he is ok. It would be very difficult to cast anyone else as Morgan Freeman.

Serious condition.... well, at least he still had his wits aboat him, even though it was shock. Hopefully, he gets out of the woods and is able to recover.

My favorite actor got into an automobile accident with a huge Chevy Truck and I had to get the truck that was doing it off him before he could crash into him again. The truck was twice my size and really fucking pissed. I'm certainly not trying to portray myself as fucking superman or batman or anything, but helping someone not get killed, whether you know them or not, is the right thing to do.

And on a more serious note, the man who played Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding is beyond reproach, and you fucks should stop making fun of his acting. I hope he's okay!

Miir emailed me to apologize, made a donation in my name to Ron Paul's presidential campaign, got an American Flag tattoo, acknowledged that Canadian Bacon is simply a fancy name for (delicious) ham, and promised that he would watch the Tyra Banks show until he was more sensitive to people with body image issues, so I've decided to unban him.

He's skating on thin ice though. Please let me know if he crosses the line again.

Tyra is kinda sexy, but watching her for any prolonged period of time would probably effect your vision negatively, as the glare from the camera off her forehead (calling it a forehead is a understatement, it's more like a small plod of land) would surely be hard on the eyes

I am not a massive fan of Morgan Freeman yet found his accident vaguely interesting in the sense that reading the story passed some time as the kettle boiled for my cup of tea.

There isn't an actor alive who can hold a candle to Freeman's ability to play the same fucking shitty ass narrative role over and over again and be considered a respected "Actor" by the average idiot.

Still, he's ok apart from a few broken bones, so no big deal.

Just because he's got a distinctive voice, doesn't mean he always plays the same character. Perhaps he's typecast to some degree, as he usually plays the wise or authoritative figure in the movie, but that doesn't mean he isn't a great actor.

Freeman was the President in Deep Impact, which is kind of eerie since we have Obama that could be elected and 2012 is right around the corner (Myan end of the world date)!

He is a great actor. I don't think that can really be disputed.
