Dennis Quaid is an English professor at Carnegie Mellon.Into the life of a widowed professor comes a new love and an unexpected visit from his adopted brother.
Ellen Page is his daughter, smart enough to get a perfect score on SATs.
Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) is the out of work, half brother of Dennis Quaid, outcast.
Sarah Jessica Parker is the new love interest of Dennis Quaid (original wife passed away years ago)
Sounds like enough star power to be interesting. After watching it though, I only give passing grades to Ellen Page and Thomas Haden Church for their roles. I've never considered Dennis Quaid to be a good actor (although I liked him in Innerspace back in 1987) and he doesn't disappoint here. He's not bad, just drab. Sarah Jessica Parker also isn't bad, just doesn't provide anything noteworthy to the movie. Ellen page is good in this movie although she is restrained by the role and script. Thomas Haden Church (the TV commercial actor in Sideways) does the best job of giving the movie a little life.
Overall, the movie is forgettable. Stick a better actor in Dennis Quaid's role, give the project a better director, and you'd have a movie that rates higher than a 5/10.
