I love M. Knight's movies. This was another winner. The environmentalist crowd should really love this film. 8/10

My cousin, her son, and his girlfriend saw this movie, because they also enjoy M. Night's films. They said it was the worst movie they had ever seen; horrible acting, etc. It also has a 19% at RottenTomatoes.

This movie is probably very bad.

Well, thankfully the minority crowd of folks who enjoy all his movied went out to see it enough for it to double it's budget. More M. Knight movies! YAY!

I'll buy it for sure. However, Spang is dead on. This film has a worse rating than Lady in the Water. It is already known as M Knight's worst film to date. I am not like most people though, so I'm sure I'll find things to love about it. I'm an anabashed fan of Signs to this day. As a director, M Knight is beyond great. He usually picks great music as well. The problem is his scripts. His latest movies seem to have some sort of Achilles heel that drags them down. I look forward to his version of Avatar: The Last Airbender simply because it won't be his script.

Best to Worst

6th Sense (10/10)
Unbreakable (9/10)
Signs (8/10)
Lady in the Water (6/10)
Village (4/10)

I can't rank The Happening yet. But I hope it will land above Lady in the Water.

Btw, the movie did well beacuse it was released on Friday the 13th and had no competition. It's second week earnings tanked due to bad word of mouth. I'm happy it did well too, almost doubling box office expectations. I want him to keep making movies. He needs to get his "great to crap" ratio up though.

The village is a 2/10 at best, and that is being extremely generous.

I might see this on netflix on my 360 later this year :)

I think you're just easy-to-please. You like The Happening, Domino, The Postman, President Bush, etc.

Not that there's anything wrong with that (except for the President Bush part), I enjoy several of Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan's movies as well.

I haven't seen The Happening, but from a spoiler I accidentally read, I'm not sure that I want to.

His movies are fine until the "big twist" that he puts in them (exception being the sixth sense.)

The village would have been infinitely better had the wolves actually been real.

This movie would be much better than it is (yes I'm saying that and I haven't seen it) if it was about some supernatural force that just starts offing everyone, instead of whatever environmental bullshit card he pulls (at least you guys make it sound like that's the twist).

Someone just needs to tell him that it's okay to make a movie that doesn't have a major plot twist, he might do a little better.

The movie actually has a fantastic premise and there really isn't a major plot twist like his first few films.
The problem with The Happening is that screenplay is just awful.

I really enjoyed all his films up to The Village (yes, I really liked that one) but I would be too embarrassed to recommend his last 2 films to anyone.

Also, there was no 'twist' in Lady in the Water...
So maybe you should refrain from commenting on things that you obviously (and admittedly) know nothing about.

You might be right Sylvus. I watched The Love Guru last night. While it wasn't a good mive, for a comedy, it was funny enough to keep watching. That is if you enjoy the Austin Power type of humor. It was pretty much Austin Powers 3 in disguise as an indian.

I might see the love guru if I'm stoned and bored sometime, but mike meyers is just plain old washed up. Austin Powers wasn't very funny, the 2nd and 3rd were even worse, and then he does the love guru which he plays the exact same character. I mean really dude, try and be funny without acting like austin powers for once for fucks sake.

Eddie Murphy is a funny guy, and is in some of my favorite all time comedy movies (Life being towards the top of the list), however he, not too unlike Mike Meyers, needs to learn when enough is enough. You playing every part in the movie was funny the first time or two, now it's not, and it never will be again, SO FUCKING STOP IT.

6th Sense and Unbreakable were watchable movies. Signs is on my all time worse movie list. Horrible movie. The rest of his stuff doesn't interest me.

Based on that list, I would give M. Knight a ranking of "should be unemployed".

The twist was the sudden realization of who the actual helpers were, instead of the initial misinterpretation.

Lady in the Water contained nothing that could be called an M. Night Shyamalan twist.

To be fair, you can do a search for twist ending for Lady in the Water and half say it has one and the other half says it doesn't. I would say that it does, but it's much more subtle that any of his other films.

Murphy, sorry for the confusion. I know he does, and he needs to stop though.

Like I said, he has done some really really good movies, but none of them are the ones where he plays 50 different people in the film.

Coming to America was a great 80s flick. He should have quit making movies after that! :D

The Happening was ok. I actually enjoyed it for the most part. There was certainly some wtf moments in regard to the acting and general script. Just watch The Village right before this and it goes from 5/10 to 11/10.

Worse than I was hoping. They laid out the plot like breadcrumbs and it was hard to take any of the actors seriously. I really didn't care for the female lead.

I was really dissappointed. Rarely will a movie with such low expectations actually under perform for me. The Happening did just that.

This is worse than the Village. I would score it a 3/10 and consider it yet another backward step for M Knight.

This movie was so bad that I had to find the old thread about it just to add that it was so bad. Ignoring the poor story, the acting was just HORRIBLE. I swear that they must have been yearning to actually act and Shyamalan was just reigning them in and saying, 'No no no! Less sincere!'. I normally enjoy his movies, but this one was just complete and utter garbage.

And I totally get the SNL parodies of Mark Whalberg now.

The good thing about this movie is that you pretty much know it's going to suck in the first 5 minutes. That first scene with Mark Whalberg in the classroom was just horrible. I've seen him in other movies, but omg, the acting in that one was just plain suck.

The DVD extras has a scene where Mark is getting ready to break into the house where the kid gets shot and he laughingly says something like "why would I try and break into an obviously occupied house when i'm surrounded by empty ones. Look, there's one right there."

Re: The Happening

Wow, that movie was even worse than I had anticipated. I figured the acting would be a bit wooden, but fuck, that was some of the worst writing I've ever witnessed. Maybe the worst movie I've seen in the last 5 years, don't see this movie unless you really need to experience how awful it is for yourself.

Totally! I really didn't think he was that bad an actor, but jesus. Maybe it was compounded because of the shitty material he had to work with.

Domino was definitely a better movie than The Happening.
