Generation Kill

Post by Zamtuk »

New 7 part miniseries by the creators of The Wire about the Iraq war. The first episode was pretty fucking good, and considering the ending, looks to be close to The Wire in storytelling. It is a very realistic look as to what was going on over there 5 years ago, and from what I could tell, is told with no bias at all.

When/where does this air? I heard some things about it locally, but I never heard enough to know when to set the DVR.

It has a bit of a bias if you asked me. I thought it was excellent and I look forward to ep. 2.

Maybe it went a little overboard on how much those marines really want to just kill people. Maybe that's what it was actually like. I thought it was a tad over the top.

I haven't watched it yet but:

there are SOME Marines (probably other branches as well) that really do feel that way. From a Marine I know, there were some guys in his unit that were the way you mention. He commented that there may be times that the attitude is required based on the circumstances that you are found in. He also talked about how they would generally be interspersed among those who did not feel that way in order to minimalize the chances of them just "going off." So, I wouldn't deny that it happens, or that they exist, but I would argue that it probably isn't as widespread as people seem to think.

Keep in mind this is about a recon unit of Marines. So they were all the baddest (craziest) people in the Marines.
