WALL*E
Saw the flick yesterday afternoon.
It was a good movie and the visuals were great but it tried way too hard to be cute. Overall I wouldn't overly urge you guys to see it in theaters if you don't mind the wait for the DVD.
At the end of the day, I enjoyed Kung-Fu Panda a lot more personally.
The opening short movie however was pure win. I hope that's on the DVD.

Re: WALL*E
Aren't they always on the DVD
Enjoyed this movie, and thought it was worth the admission even if there were a ton of youngsters about.

Re: WALL*E
I thought it was fantastic. The way Pixar can give life-like qualities and emotions to an artificial creature never ceases to amaze me.

I'm curious. What parts of the film did you think they tried too hard to be cute? don't forget your spoiler tags...It was a good movie and the visuals were great but it tried way too hard to be cute.

Re: WALL*E
That being said, I did really enjoy the flick and am going to buy the DVD the day it comes out. It was a great flick. I'm just really mentionning that nagged me while watching the movie.
Re: WALL*E
Loved the movie, although if it wasn't a Disney/ kid's flick it could have been a movie with much more emotional impact
Overall a great movie.

Re: WALL*E
Very nice movie. The kids enjoyed it a lot.
Re: WALL*E
Reliable sources have told me to see this if A)I'm watching someone's children or B)I have a date and need a good date movie.
Otherwise, I was told it was missable.

Re: WALL*E
Reliable my asshole. Stop listening to whoever told you that. They couldn't tell a good film from their fucking hoop after a romantic evening with a couple of vindaloos.
WallE is arguably the best Pixar animated film thus far. It's as good a film as The Dark Knight. Even though the two are in no way comparable, I'm just going to go ahead and say it. Someone has to. sorry!
I don't agree with Animalor's opinions at all in regards to the WallE and Eve scenes. I wish there had been more of them. It was a beautiful little movie. If only other companies could do "emotion" as well as Pixar. The only thing wrong with it is that it spent too much time concentrating on ugly fat lazy humans and not enough on Walle and Eve.
I really did appreciate Pixar giving a blatant middle finger to the whole underlying aggressive anti-apathy, anti-slovenly, anti-evolution and anti-earth mindset that seems to be imposing itself into this century in people, and that was very cool and frankly, surprising, to see what was essentially a kids film tackle so openly an issue that effectively everyone is aware of. Still, I preferred the silliness of WallE when he was bumping into things, putting a bra on his face and stuff like the little "tada" when he showed Eve his directive for the first time.
I'm not a disciple of Rotten Tomatoes, but their thread on the film sums it up. http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/wall_e/
Also, as some guy put it:
If you're truly a fan of film, then this is arguably a piece only to be missed or derided by only the most misinformed or idiotic of philistines.
WallE, for someone who lacks the ability to speak, is about as interesting a protaganist as you can find. Arguably more exciting, emotional, touching, realistic and subtle than Christian Bale's interpretation of Batman. Of all fucking people. (i'm only comparing the two because they are the only 2 blockbusters this summer worth talking about - but yes Batman and WallE are not really comparable tbh).
That's not hyperbole. I really loved Batman. It's just my opinion. It's also pretty much the case.

Also, as some guy put it:
The wit, invention and sheer charm of WALL-E will win over anyone with a heart. And maybe, given long enough, even those without.
Saving the world became secondary to the power of holding hands.
so thoroughly embodies the greatest pleasures the movies have to offer that it goes directly into the sublime
If this doesn't apply to you, it's more an indication of you than the film itself.WALL-E is a classic, but it will never appeal to people who are happy with art only when it has as little bite as possible.

Re: WALL*E
I enjoyed the movie, but it was only nice, not great for me. It just seemed to lack... something... for greatness, but I cant really put my finger on what. No bite, or too predictable or something.

Re: WALL*E
I agree. In fact, the amount of times, "Wall*E" was repeated in the movie was really irritating. Ratatouille, for example, was a much better animated movie imo.VariaVespasa wrote:I enjoyed the movie, but it was only nice, not great for me. Re: WALL*E
I guess there's no accounting for taste.
Re: WALL*E
I finally watched this the other day, and holy shit was it emotional. This movie was amazing in almost every way. The one thing that really did bother me was the extreme similarity that the Earth in this movie shared with the Earth in Idiocracy. Take out Costco and throw in Buy N Go, and it is the exact same. Aside from that, it was a great movie.
Fuck Michigan!

Re: WALL*E
I'm always trying to wait for a good night to watch this with my daughter (22 months), but something always seems to come up! Recently, some critics in New York voted this as movie of the year. My "movies to watch" pile is a little back logged atm. I also have to watch Kung Fu Panda with my daughter since I heard that was pretty good too.
Re: WALL*E
I'd move it to the top. It's a great movie for kids and adults.
How I measure how good it is ... first 30ish minute contain no dialogue, little action, yet it managed to hold the attention of a theater full of tots. Pixar does it again!

Re: WALL*E
I was finally able to watch this last night. It was even better than I was expecting. It was amazingly subversive in both subtle and not so subtle ways. Like all of the best animated films, I feel it is truely timeless. People will be watching and enjoying Wall*E 50 years from now. The movie is like a little time capsule, and I'm sure it will be examined as such by the next generation of film lovers. A movie that says so much without barely saying anything at all is one of the rarest things in cinema.
It may not be the best movie of 2008, but it deserves to be nominated.

Re: WALL*E
I just wanted to add that I was dissappointed with the DVD not being anamorphic widescreen. I will never understand why they choose to do it with some Pixar movies and not others. It's an extra kick in the ass when the advertisement for Blue Ray before the movie had a beautiful anamorphic montage that included Wall*E. Stupid Stupid Stupid
Btw, including ads for Blu Ray on my DVD is beyond annoying.

Re: WALL*E
Uhhh. blu-ray is an industry standard...
You can buy a Blu-Ray player from any number of manufacturers including Sony, Samsung, LG, Sharp, Panasonic, Pioneer, etc.
As for the media itself, Sony is absofuckinglutely not the sole manufacturer nor the sole distributor.
Sony has absolutely nothing to do with the adverts the studios choose to include on the DVD copies of their movies.
Do you whine about Toshiba proprietary media every time you watch a fucking DVD?

I finally watched this movie last night and enjoyed it a great deal. I plan on watching it several times during the course of my life.
Make love, fuck war, peace will save us.
